Balmung

Balmung (Japanese: バルムンク Balmunc), referred to as the "divine sword" (Japanese: 神剣), is a regalia sword which was introduced in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It is the holy weapon once wielded by Od of the Twelve Crusaders, bestowed upon him at the Miracle of Dahna after his blood pact with a dragon. The blade is the property of Od's descendants, the royal family of Isaach, and can only be wielded by those in possession of major Od Holy Blood.
History
In Isaach's war with Grannvale, upon hearing of his father Mananan's cruel death at the hands of the Grannvale forces, Crown Prince Mariccle set out with the Balmung to confront his father's killers, but was himself killed in battle. The Balmung was taken and eventually ended up placed within the Aed Shrine, guarded by its Loptrian occupants, and remained there for two decades.
Eventually, Mariccle's son Shannan came to hear rumours of the blade's entombment at the Shrine and set out to attempt to procure it. He was beaten to it, however, by the thief Patty, who had decided to rob the Shrine of her own accord. As the two fled from the pursuing Loptrian forces, Patty eagerly handed the Balmung over to Shannan upon learning of his identity, and Shannan wielded it for the rest of the liberation war under Seliph.
Millennia later, the blade came into the possession of the Grimleal, and was given to its reincarnation of Simia, the Deadlord. By this point, Balmung was no longer sealed to the Od bloodline and could be used by any sword-wielder of reasonable skill.

Fire Emblem Cipher
Balmung is present as a skill on one card in Fire Emblem Cipher: B08-076SR Astral Sword Sovereign, Shannan. It is a manual-activation skill which allows the player to, for the cost of flipping two bond cards face-down, discard their entire hand and replace it with an equal number of cards drawn from the Retreat Area which depict Shannan, potentially giving the player a significant stockpile of cards to spend on having Shannan evade attacks or inflict critical hits.

Trivia
- In Genealogy, while the Crusader weapons cannot normally leave their owner's possession, a glitch involving Valkyrie can transfer Balmung out of Shannan's inventory and into the pawn shop, where any other unit can purchase and repair it. If Chulainn married Ayra, Larcei and Scáthach will have major Od blood, allowing them to use Balmung.
