Fire Emblem Fates

I don't take orders. Not from you. Not from anyone. You care about your dumb name more than you've ever cared about me. It's my life. I live as I please.
— Asugi, to Saizo.

Asugi (Japanese: グレイ Gurei), born Saizo the Sixth, is the son of Saizo and a Ninja of Hoshido.

He intentionally resembles Gaius from Fire Emblem Awakening.

Fire Emblem Fates

Role

Asugi is Saizo's son, becoming recruitable after he marries. Like the other children of Corrin and their companions, Asugi was placed in the Deeprealms when he was born in order to keep him safe from the war. Time in the Deeprealms flows much more quickly than outside it, and Asugi reached young adulthood in a very short span of time.

In his paralogue, Saizo vs. Saizo, his father finds Asugi talking with a man, Funke, about a deal they had made. It appears that Asugi has become a dishonorable thief, which leads the father and son getting into an argument about the legacy of the Saizo name. This causes Asugi to leave which in turn makes Funke get upset and attack Corrin’s army. After the battle, Asugi and Saizo have another talk where Saizo decides to stop trying to force his son to take up his legacy and let him be free to make his own choices, but Asugi decides to use this freedom to join the army.

My Castle quotes

Now seems as good a time as any to prepare a sweet little treat...
— Asugi, when spoken to at My Castle.
I used to collect ore to please my father. But I was just a dumb kid then.
— Asugi, when mining for ore at a spring.
I like sweeter vegetables. Like carrot cake. Or pumpkin pie...
— Asugi, when gathering at the cabbage patch.

Shop quotes

Weapons are fine, as long as you know your foe's weak spot.
— Asugi, when running the armory.
Anything else?
— Asugi, when Corrin backs out of service at his shop.
You're the only one who would buy stuff for me.
— Asugi, when buying items at a shop he runs.
This is like stealing from myself.
— Asugi, when selling items at a shop he runs.
Do you have any tasty sweets for sale here?
— Asugi, when buying items at a shop.
My things? Fine—long as you buy me candy.
— Asugi, when selling items at a shop.

Smithy

Let's forge all my stuff into a giant lollipop.
— Asugi, when one of his weapons is forged.
This is where I melt down sugar to make candy. Or not.
— Asugi, when on duty at the smithy.
Sure, I'll forge whatever sweet gear you need.
— Asugi, when forging his own weapon while on duty.

Battle quotes

DLC battle quotes

What I love about winter is, my chocolate doesn't melt as fast. Plus, regular fruit tastes great when you stick it in the snow for a while. Between you and me, I've got some blood oranges buried past that ridge. They should be ready by the time I'm done beating you down.
— Asugi, in Anna on the Run.
This wouldn't be so awful if the prize was, like...candy, instead of power. I know what I'll do. I'll pretend these dumb monsters are piñatas. Yeah... If I hit one hard enough, candy is sure to fly out!
— Asugi, in Boo Camp.
Rare weapons, huh? Got any candy swords? No? Guess I'll just have to finish you quickly and get some at the gift shop!
— Asugi, in Museum Melee.

So... bitter...
