I want to help! I really, really do! I'm tired of sitting home alone and waiting to be of some use. I'll never be as perfect as you are, Father. But I'd like to start trying to be! I have rigorously trained myself in martial arts, among other disciplines. I won't disappoint you.
— Caeldori

Truly Talented (Japanese: 完璧な娘 Perfect Daughter) is the thirteenth paralogue chapter in Fire Emblem Fates. As a paralogue chapter, its events are not integral to the game's main storyline and can be done at the player's leisure. The chapter is unlocked after both clearing chapter 7 in Birthright or clearing chapter 8 in Revelation, and have Subaki married.

In this chapter, a routine visit by Subaki to his daughter Caeldori's Deeprealm is abruptly cut short by reports of invaders attacking three islands along a river. Caeldori decides to follow Subaki out of the Deeprealm and join the fight.

Subaki states that it's been a long time since he's been in the Deeprealm he's currently situated in, noting how peaceful it is, and asks where his daughter is; his daughter, Caeldori, shows up and welcomes Subaki back. Subaki states that Caeldori has grown even more beautiful since he's been away, to which Caeldori states is embarassing; Subaki then asks Caeldori if he dotes too much and if she's been well, to which Caeldori confirms--she's kept up with every aspect of her training and studies, and even memorized several books about war strategy in her spare time. Subaki, noting Caeldori's routine as impressive, asks her if she's trying to be perfect like her father, to which Caeldori states she's merely aiming for capable, as she hasn't seen real combat yet; Subaki asks Caeldori to take her time and not rush herself, as he states that the reason he and the rest of Corrin's army is at war is to end war. A Hoshidan samurai appears to report urgent news from outside the Deeprealm--enemies are attacking a site as he speaks, and Subaki is needed at once, to which Subaki agrees; Caeldori offers to join in the fight, stating that she would learn more in actual combat and that Subaki needs all the help he can get, but Subaki tells Caeldori that the army has things under control--she's brave to volunteer, but he couldn't bear the thought of putting her in harm's way. As Caeldori tries to protest, Subaki tells her not to worry--the army is excellent at what they do, and he says he approaches perfection on the battlefield--then tells her to wait in the Deeprealm and he'll be back as soon as the battle's over; Caeldori tries to protest again, but Subaki stops her and leaves the area. As we cut to an area outside the Deeprealm along a river with three islands in it, preparations take place at this point.

Once preparations are complete, Subaki asks how it's possible for the invaders to have swarmed this area and that there appears to be no end to them, that the odds seem against the army; Caeldori arrives on the scene and asks Subaki to let her help, to which Subaki tells Caeldori that she shouldn't be in this area. Caeldori states that she didn't mean to disobey Subaki but had to jump at the opportunity and that she really wants to help; she then explains that she's tired of sitting home alone and waiting to be of some use, then tells Subaki that she'll never be as perfect as him but she'd like to start trying to be--revealing that she's rigorously trained herself in martial arts among other disciplines and that she won't disappoint Subaki. Subaki tells Caeldori that she won't disappoint him and that she seems like quite a wonder already, then gives in and allows Caeldori to join the fight, but not to get overconfident given that this is her first battle, to which Caeldori states that she'll do her best. The battle begins at this point.

Once the battle ends, Subaki tells Caeldori that she was almost perfect in the battle as he observed her every move, then asks how she could be so good given that it was her first battle; Caeldori thanks Subaki but states that he must have seen that she's still falling short of his standard; Caeldori notes that Subaki has torn his clothing and states that even people like Subaki can have a bad day, offering to patch the clothes right up and states that she's sure she has a sewing needle among her belongings. Subaki notes Caeldori's preparedness, after which Caeldori states that she did a quick assessment of the injuries suffered by the locals, knowing they will be just fine having visited every one of them as long as they can be taken somewhere better for their recuperation; Caeldori then states that she's mobilized some of the army's troops to carry the locals out of the area, stating that she tried to think of what Subaki would do and asks him if she caught everything, to which Subaki confirms. Caeldori also reveals that she sent a scout ahead to make sure the way is safe, confirming that it is, and revealing that she's sure she wasn't as thorough as Subaki would be; as Caeldori continues talking, Subaki zones out and starts to think that Caeldori is actually outdoing him. Caeldori tries to get Subaki's attention again, but Subaki remains zoned out and thinks Caeldori will soon be more perfect than he is; as Caeldori asks Subaki if she's boring him, Subaki emerges from his zoning out and confirms that she is not, after which Caeldori states that she must train harder and that someday she'll be as brilliant in battle as he is, and swears she won't let him down. Subaki tells Caeldori to not push herself too hard; he then zones out again and tells himself to start pushing himself harder or else Caeldori will make him look like a day-one novice.

An additional scene plays in the Revelation campaign should Selena be Caeldori's mother, playing after the point where the chapter has otherwise ended. As Selena catches up with Caeldori, Caeldori tells Selena that she startled her, then notes that Selena looks impressive and that she doesn't know how she does it; Selena tells Caeldori that there's something she needs to tell her--Caeldori may have looked more like Subaki when she was younger, but time has had its way with them. Selena then asks Caeldori to recall the tales she told her of her mother, to which Caeldori tells states that Selena has told her much about her--as perfect a knight as has ever been seen, to which Caeldori states she felt Selena and her mother were so alike; Selena then states that Caeldori is the one that's a spitting image of her mother--her face and voice, the way she carries herself, every move she makes and word she says, are all like her. Caeldori states that she'd love to think that she's a little like her grandmother, and vows to work even harder to honor her memory; Selena tells Caeldori that she'd doing fine and tells her not to mess things up, to which Caeldori states that she'll do her best for Selena. Selena apologizes for overreacting and promises to never go out and die on Caeldori or abandon her, after which Caeldori asks her if she's being serious; Selena asks Caeldori to they forget that she ever said anything.

Summary

While Subaki is visting his daughter, Caeldori, he hears that there are enemies running amok, and he hurries to confront them. Caeldori makes a small resolution.

Additional notes: Caeldori stops visibly scaling upon hitting level 20 unpromoted at the chapter 18 position; from the chapter 19 position onward, Caeldori will have an Offspring Seal in her inventory. Initial unpromoted enemy units become promoted at the chapter 19 position. The boss reaches level 20 at the chapter 22 position and stops scaling from this point; all other initial promoted enemy units reach level 20 at the chapter 23 position and stop scaling from this point.

When enemies become promoted, they become the following classes:

Trivia

  • Despite Subaki's claim that there appears to be no end to this wave of invaders, there are no reinforcements in this chapter.
  • This chapter is one of two child paralogues in Fates where a potential non-fixed female parent has a potential special scene that appears should said character be the child's mother, in this case Selena being Caeldori's mother; the other such chapter is paralogue 14 with a female Corrin being Rhajat's mother. In this chapter's case, the non-fixed mother's scene is an additional scene without an equivalent for any other mother.
