I am ignored...alone...forgotten. But I am more powerful than they can imagine! [...] Ughhhh... I will not stand in the shadows any longer... They will all see me for the first time! I will make them pay for what they've done. I will make them...I will make them... DIE!.
— Takumi while he is possessed.

Ninja Village (Japanese: 忍の里 Ninja Village) is the tenth chapter of the Birthright campaign in Fire Emblem Fates. In this chapter, Corrin and their army, en route toward the Bottomless Canyon in search of the missing Hoshidan princes, pass through the Mokushu Forest, only to find out their people have aligned themselves with Nohr on the promise of expanded territory. As the army have to deal with the famed ninjas of the area, they are also chased by one who has appeared to have fallen to possession.

As we witness Corrin, Azura, and Kaze walking through the forests of Mokushu, Corrin notes that the road ahead seems heavily forested and asks if that's their destination, to which Azura notes that the forest may be dense but a path therein leads to the Bottomless Canyon; Azura notes that this area is the domain of Mokushu, another independent nation, and that their citizens should be friendly if encountered but should be wary due to Nohr compromising Izumo before they arrived. Kaze tells Azura that she shouldn't worry about Nohr arming Mokushu, as the locals are well-known for their proficiency in martial arts and is where many great ninja have shaped their craft, then deduces that Nohr's strategists would try to avoid this area even if it meant taking the long route; Azura adds that they haven't heard of any battles in this area and notes it as another good sigh, to which Corrin calls for them to proceed. Zola appears and boasts that the others didn't expect to see him in the area, to which Corrin notes that he's massively outnumbered and thus can't be following the army in search of a fight; Hinoka asks Corrin to relax and guesses that Zola came back to offer her a chance to cut him, after which Zola states that he's been defeated and did not appear to challenge the army by himself--he's come to surrender and seek amnesty, which Corrin asking Zola why they should trust him. Zola states that the army really shouldn't trust him as he tried to kill them, but that they also saw what Leo was about to do to him, and thus he can no longer return to Nohr and has thus been exiled--and without the backing of an army, he is of little danger to Corrin's army, then states that he could possibly be of some assistance; as Corrin contemplates Zola's proposal to which Azura notices, Hinoka asks if she can cut Zola, promoting Zola to jump aside in fear, after which Corrin states that they should bring Zola with them. Both Zola and Azura asks Corrin if he/she really means to bring Zola with them, to which Corrin confirms--he's of little danger to them by himself, he may yet to prove some value, and it's also not the Hoshidan way to turn their back on the helpless; Azura notes that Corrin's heart might be too kind, after which Zola thanks Corrin--stating that he couldn't believe that he let King Garon convince him that Corrin deserved to die, noting that Corrin's shown their true character of a brave leader that day. Corrin tells Zola that he's overreacting, then states that if any of them catch him doing anything suspicious, they will allow Hinoka to cut him down; Hinoka states that she'll always be standing by, knife at the ready, and tells Zola not to even think about doing anything stupid, to which Zola agrees and begs for Hinoka not to hurt him.

A short time later, Corrin notes the forest air as refreshing, and notes that they are enjoying this path more than the Eternal Stairway, then asks Sakura if they're getting anywhere close to the Bottomless Canyon, to which Sakura states she believes they are; Corrin asks Sakura what's going on and if she's tired, to which Sakura states that she was thinking about Ryoma and Takumi--sometimes she forgets they're missing and states it feels like a wound is freshly opened once she remembers. Corrin states that they know the feeling, then asks Sakura to try to stay positive as worrying about the matter isn't going to do anything but drive her crazy, to which Sakura confirms and states that she'll do her best; Corrin notes Sakura's spirit, then tells her to watch out, prompting Sakura to take evasive action as a shuriken flies toward the scene, to which Corrin tells everyone to get down. Kaze notes that the shuriken belongs to a Mokushu ninja, to which Azura notes the presence of many of them and tells Corrin that they're surrounded, with Corrin deducing that Nohr has indeed decided to involve themselves in Mokushu's affairs; Azura states that she's not sure that they're dealing with Nohr, with Zola confirming and stating that Nohr wants no fight with Mokushu, after which Hinoka starts to go after him. As Zola asks Hinoka to remove her knife from his throat, Hinoka asks Zola to tell her what's going on; as Zola tells Hinoka that her guess is as good as his, he deduces that Nohr might have indeed made an alliance with Mokushu, after which Kotaro comes onto the scene and confirms that Zola is correct--Mokushu has indeed made an arrangement with Nohr. Corrin asks Kotaro who he is, to which Kotaro introduces himself as the daimyo of Mokushu; Corrin then asks Kotaro what his quarrel is with their army, as they're merely seeking passage through their territory, with Azura stating that their understanding is that Mokushu is an independent nation yet appears to be beholden to Nohr. Kotaro states that Mokushu is beholden to no nation, their interests simply happen to line up with Nohr's for the time being--once Hoshido is defeated, Garon will grant them considerable new territory, and since they've long been waiting for a chance to expand, this war is the perfect opportunity; Corrin deduces that Kotaro is a war profiteer, after which Kaze deduces that Kotaro is a scheming politician and notes that he doesn't have words for how disappointed he is--with Kotaro stating that, even if Kaze did have those words, it wouldn't make a difference, telling Corrin's army to grow up and tells them that only the ambitious prosper in this world. Azura states that it was careless of them not to think of the possibility of what just went on, with Kotaro stating that now that he has the Hoshidans in one place, he can end the war that day and states that he looks forward to building a castle on the smoking ruins where Hoshido once stood; Corrin asks Kotaro to keep talking and states that they will make him eat his words. Preparations take place at this point; the battle begins once preparations are complete.

At the end of turn 1 enemy phase, Corrin notes an oncoming presence, then asks themselves if the presence is who they think it is; Takumi arrives on the scene and moans, with Corrin attempting to call him over to them, Sakura also calling out toward him, and Hinoka telling him that she's happy to see him again. Takumi then shoots an arrow toward Hinoka, prompting her to ask him what's wrong with him and Corrin to ask him what he's doing; Takumi starts to utter that he's out to kill and states that he should have been the chosen one, with Hinoka and Sakura creeped out at Takumi's current attitude. Takumi states that he is ignored, alone, and forgotten, but also more powerful than anyone can imagine, prompting Corrin to ask him what he's saying and to snap out of his funk; Takumi then states that he will stand in the shadows no longer, that they will all see him for the first time and he will make them pay for what they've done, and that the payment is everyone's lives. Corrin again tries to reach out toward Takumi, after which Takumi groans once more; Azura notes the color of Takumi's eyes and states she thinks she might know what's going on and there's only one way to find out--she's going to have to sing to him. Upon having Azura speak with Takumi, Takumi states that nobody notices or cares about him, then calls out for people to die; Azura asks Takumi to listen to her, after which Takumi asks Azura who she is, after which Azura states she is someone who can help--he's being controlled by a dark force and this behavior is not who Takumi really is, and that he doesn't have to give in and can survive what's going on, telling him to listen. Azura then sings Lost in Thoughts All Alone; as light emits from the scene, Takumi groans loudly as the song keeps being sung. Once the song's finished, Azura asks Takumi if he can hear her now, after which Takumi recognizes Azura to her relief; Takumi then asks where he is, to which Azura states that they're currently in the middle of a battle and that she doesn't have time to explain, then asks him if he is in any condition to defend himself, to which Takumi confirms. Azura asks Takumi to remember that he's strong and intelligent, there's a certain something about him, and that she believes in him, to which Takumi confirms; Azura states that that's the Takumi she remembers, then asks him to focus to make it through the battle. As Azura leaves the area, Takumi asks her to wait, then states he's still a little woozy and has so many questions, then states he'll just have to stay alive in order to get them answered. The player may now control Takumi at this point.

Once the battle ends, Sakura states that she's glad Takumi's back to normal and that everyone was worried about him, with Hinoka asking that he never do that again; Takumi asks them to stop crying and they're making him all embarrassed, to which Sakura states that she doesn't care--they didn't know if they'd ever see him again, yet showed up in a weird state, with Hinoka adding that they didn't know if he'd ever be the same Takumi they know and love again. Takumi states that he's definitely himself again and thanks everyone for their concern and apologizes for worrying everyone; Hinata states he's glad Takumi is safe and sound after all and that it wasn't looking good for awhile, while Oboro states that they'll never let anything happen to Takumi again. Corrin tells Takumi it's good to have him back, but states that while they would like to savor this moment, Ryoma is still missing, thus they ask him if he could tell them if anything happened to them; Takumi states that he and Ryoma ran into Nohrian troops outside Izumo and began fighting, and that he and Ryoma were separated in the early stages of combat before they had the chance to retreat. Takumi states that he and Ryoma were outnumbered and pushed to the brink of the Bottomless Canyon, to which Corrin deduces that they still have no idea where Ryoma is; Takumi states that something triggered a massive landslide and that he was caught up in it, and that's how he fell into the canyon. Corrin, shocked that Takumi actually fell into the Bottomless Canyon, asks Takumi how he's still alive, with Hinoka adding that she's never heard of anyone returning from there before; Takumi states he has no idea what happened, all he remembers is falling, a period of darkness, and waking up in Mokushu. Hinoka states that she's just glad to have Takumi back, noting that it's a miracle that he survived that fall, after which Takumi asks if anyone can tell him how he ended up in Mokushu and what he was doing before he woke up; Azura states it's best that he not worry about it at that time and that he needs rest, to which Takumi states he needs to know--his Fujin Yumi was in his hand when he came to and notes that some of the army have wounds in their backs. Hinoka starts to explain, but Takumi interrupts her; Corrin then states that Takumi must have been under some sort of spell, as he stumbled out of the woods and began attacking the army, then tells Takumi not to worry about it as it wasn't really him that did those things. A horrified Takumi questions his actions and asks how he can show his face in Hoshido again given that he's attacked his own men, after which Corrin states that someone or something was controlling him and they know he was not in his right mind, with Takumi stating it's small comfort; Corrin apologizes that Takumi's feeling the way he is, then asks him to join in the search for Ryoma, and perhaps something along the way will jog his memory and asks if they can count on him, to which Takumi confirms on the condition that they forgive him for the hurtful things he's said and done. Corrin states that they must move forward and not dwell on the past, after which Takumi thanks Corrin and Azura; Corrin asks Azura if everything's OK and that she doesn't look well, to which Azura states she's fine but just a bit tired, telling Corrin not to worry about her and she'll be better in no time.

We cut to inside a cavern a short time later, when Kaze announces that he has some more good news--their forces have rescued Kagero from an underground prison nearby, after which Kagero greets everyone and wishes Hinoka a good day; Hinoka welcomes Kagero back and asks her if she's all right and if she knows what's happened to Ryoma, to which Kagero confirms but begins to deliver bad news. Hinoka, Sakura, and Takumi assume the worst-case scenario of Ryoma falling to the Nohrian army has happened and begin reacting as if he is dead, with Hinoka even adding that they'll build a monument to his glory when they return home; Kagero asks that she continue speaking and states that Ryoma is still alive as far as she knows, after which Hinoka brings up the bad news Kagero was about to deliver before the overreaction. Kagero states the bad news as being that she's afraid she doesn't know where exactly Ryoma is, but reveals that after he and Takumi were separated, Ryoma met with a Hoshidan scout, who informed him of a new civil strife in Nohr, after which Ryoma departed at once in the direction of Cheve; Hinoka deduces that Ryoma must be on his way to Nohr as they speak, to which Kagero states she can only assume that is true--she was given the order to return to Hoshido and report this information, but got careless traveling through Mokushu and ended up being caught, apologizing to everyone for such shameful conduct. Hinoka tells Kagero that they're just glad to see her alive, and also states that knowing Ryoma is still out there is valuable information to have; Azura states that they should depart quickly if they hope to catch up to him, and reiterates to Corrin that this may mean he/she has to return to Nohr and asks him/her if they are ready to do so, to which Corrin confirms. Kaze states that it will be faster if they travel by sea, and that they should head to the nearest port town; Kaze also states that, even though Kotaro is defeated, that they should take care as there will surely be other ninja who share his ambition and lie in wait, to which Kagero states is the wise thing to do. Kagero states that she has dispatched another ally back to Hoshido, and he will warn everyone to avoid Mokushu for the time being, expecting the ally to reach Hoshido and inform Yukimura within roughly half a day; Kagero then asks Corrin if she can join him/her, feeling that she must make up for her previous shortcomings, to which Corrin accepts--Kagero owes them nothing but they're more than happy enough to have her, then states that the sooner they find Ryoma, the sooner they can end this war, with Corrin thinking to themselves that they wish they were as confident as they sounded.
