The Mage Fighter (Japanese: マージファイター Mage Fighter) is an advanced class exclusive to Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It possesses access to swords as well as fire, thunder, and wind magic; additionally, female Mage Fighters can use staves. It is the promoted class for Thunder Mages, Wind Mages, and female Mages, with male Mages instead becoming Mage Knights.
Despite being a mixed physical–magical weaponry class, the Mage Fighter is far more offensively adept with tomes than it is with swords due to a higher magic stat and lower sword rank, and the female variant also has higher resistance than defense. Compared to the Mage Knight, it is crippled by its lesser movement, particularly given the vast nature of the maps of Genealogy of the Holy War demands higher movement, though the female variant does have the advantage of staff utility.
Mage Fighters are entirely absent from Genealogy of the Holy War's successor, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. Presumably, the fact that Mage Knights can now dismount and temporarily act as infantry units rendered the Mage Fighter redundant.

---|---|---|
Language | Name | Definition, etymology, and notes |
English (unofficial) |
• Mage Hero |
• Used in older versions of the Genealogy of the Holy War fan translation; the provided rationale is to rename the class after another class that can use swords (Hero), as opposed to it sharing the name of one which cannot (Fighter). |
Japanese |
• マージファイター |
• Mage Fighter, referring to the class's dual mage and physical fighter functionality. Used in gameplay. |
