* It is currently unknown what would happen if one were to deploy a [[Dread Fighter]] that possesses the [[Shadowgift]] skill; such a setup (sword, axe, and dark tome) would be entitled to six weapons for five item slots.  The reason this is unknown is that the Dread Fighter is a male-only class, whereas all current potential holders of the Shadowgift skill are female.
* Mirages account for [[Shadowgift]], and will give a unit with that skill a dark tome, [[Waste]] to use.
* Contrary to some popular belief, Mirages cannot wield [[Rexcalibur]].

The Mirage (Japanese: 真実の泉 Fountain of Truth) is an enemy-exclusive class exclusive to Fire Emblem Awakening. Mirages only appear in the leadup to the action of Paralogue 22; they act as stand-ins during the preparations phase in place of whatever characters the player may choose to deploy for the chapter itself.

All Mirages inherently bear the name ???, with the help text "Shadows of the self reflected in the Wellspring of Truth." Each Mirage has the same portrait, a silhouette, which does not display a battle animation when selected. Mirages are placeholders use to hide their true function, copying player units, from the player until the map is begun.

Determining inventory

Once a Mirage has transformed itself into its target, it will inherit most of the properties of its target; however, its available weapon levels will default to B on Normal mode and A on Hard mode and above, and its inventory will be set in the following manner:

Mirage inventories
Target's weapon type Mirage's given items
Sword Silver Sword
Lance Silver Lance, Spear
Axe Silver Axe, Tomahawk
Bow (Non-archer classes) Silver Bow
Bow (Archer classes) Silver Bow, Longbow
Tome* Bolganone, Thoron
Dark tome* Bolganone, Thoron, Waste
Staff Recover, Physic
Beaststone Beaststone+
Dragonstone Dragonstone+

If a target has more than one weapon type available, they will be given the weapons of all of their available weapon types. For example, if the target is a Cavalier, they will be given the allocations of both swords and lances.
