Merchant (class): Difference between revisions
(→Flavor text: I wasn't able to find any files in the DLC that pointed to extra text for the Merchant class, unlike the DLC files for the chapters w/ the Dread Fighter and Bride. As such, it's probably safe to assume it uses the same text as the base-game) |

The Merchant (Japanese: 商人 Merchant, or 大商人 Daisyounin) is a class which was introduced in Fire Emblem Awakening. In its first appearance, it is a non-playable special class used exclusively by travelling merchants when they appear in battle in skirmishes, with the objective being to protect them from being harmed by Risen for a reward. They wield lances and usually have access to reasonably powerful weapons such as Silver Lances, but are statistically lacking and thus still highly vulnerable. Their movement is also nullified to prevent them from moving without having a Rescue staff cast on them by a playable unit.
Merchants also appear as a component of the downloadable content packages Five-Anna Firefight and Apotheosis, utilized as the class of any Anna character in those chapters.
In Fates, the Merchant is an advanced class aligned with Hoshido. It is a class change option for both Villagers and Apothecaries, and is a practitioner of both naginata and yumi. It has relatively average stats, with good strength, defense, and resistance. The class's unique skills, Profiteer and Spendthrift, allow Merchants to generate Gold Bars and either hold onto them to sell, or use them to increase their damage output.
