Priest

The Priest or Curate (Japanese: 僧侶 Priest, or 神官 Priest) is a basic magic-wielding class introduced in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, and one of the staple recurring classes of the Fire Emblem series. In all appearances except Fire Emblem Gaiden, Priests possess no offensive abilities, and instead wield magical staves to aid their allies primarily by healing them. Depending on the individual game, the Priest is a gender-neutral class applicable to both males and females in some, is male-exclusive in others with their female counterpart being the Cleric, and in Gaiden is entirely female-exclusive.
Priests typically possess excellent resistance well above that of any other basic class, in addition to good magic. Owing to their non-offensive status, however, their other stats are somewhat low, particularly their physical strength and defense. Their defensive weaknesses and their non-offensive nature make keeping them hidden away from enemies behind fighting units a necessity to use them, but on the other hand, in the NES Shadow Dragon, Priests can only gain experience by being attacked by enemies, a quirk rectified in later games.
The exception to the standard role of Priests is Gaiden, in which the class is more offensively oriented. The Gaiden Priest wields swords in addition to having access to both black and white magic. It is the initial class of Celica, the second protagonist of the game, but is not exclusive to her as all female Mages promote to Priest; Celica can in turn promote to Princess in an event, something no other Priest can do. The female-exclusive Cleric performs the duties of the traditional Priest as a healing class.
In the majority of games, Priests class change to the Bishop class, which grants them the ability to wield offensive magic alongside their healing capabilities. In Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776 they instead promote to High Priest, in The Sacred Stones they have the choice between promoting to Bishop and Sage, and in Awakening they can choose between promoting to Sage or War Monk.
