Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.
|
Roger can be recruited in Chapter 8 as a member of the Knight class, and has little to offer to justify deploying him. He does come with a fairly high defense of 13, and his weapon level is high enough to use most of the powerful swords and lances like the Silver Sword, Silver Lance, and Levin Sword. Unfortunately, that's more or less where his benefits end. His speed is a pitiful 5 with a growth of only 20%, so he will fail to meet doubling thresholds for almost every enemy, and will likely get doubled by most enemies. His skill is very low at 3 with only a 10% growth, so his accuracy will be very bad. Most damning of all however is his terrible 5 movement, making it so that he will have a hard time keeping up with other units or traversing the map. Roger offers very little to justify a deployment slot, and shouldn't be used if you want to play efficiently.
Role
Roger is a knight of Grust who fights out of loyalty for his homeland, even though he personally opposes the war. He appears in the battle near Port Warren. If Caeda speaks to him on the battlefield, he becomes smitten with her and joins Marth's army. Afterwards, he can talk to Marth about his decision to defect from Grust and his crush on Caeda, unaware that Marth also has romantic feelings for her.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.
|
Roger is an armor knight that joins in chapter 8; he will likely not contribute in this chapter at all. He comes with somewhat acceptable bases, with the exception of very low Speed that can get him doubled and one-rounded, especially on higher difficulties. Roger has a very high Luck, HP and Strength growth, but mediocre or nonexistent growths in everything else. He also comes with D rank in lances at base, meaning that he can use the Javelin and the Steel Lance with no investment.
Arguably, the best thing that can be done for Roger is to reclass him to another class, such as Hunter. Then, he will essentially become a different unit. His personal defensive bases are very low, but his personal Speed base is high, which means that he will become a very fast unit, but also a glass cannon. He will also have to deal with having a weapon rank of E if he is reclassed to something like Hunter, because at base, he only has D in lances and nothing else.
Overall, Roger is one of the worst units in the game. His base stats are not very impressive and he is very slow. The low Speed can be fixed by reclassing, but then he has an even worse weapon rank and he becomes a glass cannon that dies in a single hit to some enemies. All of his issues get highlighted even further if the game is played on a higher difficulty, making him a challenge to even use, let alone contribute with. He will require a lot of favoritism to be good, and the returns are not very high other than satisfaction.

Personality and character
He is a knight of Grust and recruitable by Caeda, who asks him if he believes in love, causing him to develop a crush on her. His endgame title is "Still Single", as he shows romantic interest in Caeda but probably gave up on her, seeing that she is in love with Marth.
After the War of Shadow, Roger joined the Archanean army.
However, in his conversations with Kris in Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, Roger is shown fantasizing with all the women of the army. This leads to an awkward conversation between him and Kris, since Roger has a very vague and superficial vision of romance (saying things like "anyone in this army would do", referring to having a romantic relationship with someone). If Kris is a woman, Roger thinks that she is in love with him before Kris lied telling him that there is a girl interested in him.
