Mages (魔導士 or まどうし, Madoushi, meaning sorcerer, wizard, mage, etc. in Japan) are a magic-using class and one of the most prevalent classes in the Fire Emblem series. It has appeared in every game except for Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn; even then, in that game it is divided into the Light Mage, Fire Mage, Wind Mage, and Thunder Mage classes. In each of the games they appear in, they use magic; depending on the game, they use different types of magic depending on the game's magic types.

Mages can attack from either one or two spaces away, but their typically low defense and HP leave them vulnerable if exposed to physical attackers. Therefore, they should usually attack from two spaces and be protected by a unit with better defense, such as a mercenary or fighter.

Myrmidons and other physical attackers have difficulty enduring mages' attacks due to their low resistance. However, on the other hand, mages themselves have trouble with physical attacks due to their typically low defense.
