A manakete (マムクート, Mamukuuto, often translated as Mamkute) is one who can transform into a dragon using a dragonstone. They usually have quite low stats, but when they transform into dragons during battle, they are extremely powerful. They first appeared in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, in which they only transformed during battles. Manaketes then appeared in Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem; with dragonstones, they transformed into dragons for multiple turns. They then appeared in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, where they used dragonstones to transform only in battle; however, these dragonstones greatly increased their stats. This was largely the same in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Finally, they appeared again in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, using the same system as Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light.
Manaketes are a separate race from humans, usually having a large pair of wings even in human form. They are often referred to as the dragon tribe. In Archanea, they are a declining race that chose to take human form. They are often associated with Naga, the Divine Dragon, who protected humans from Earth Dragons. In Jugdral, they do not appear as playable characters, but several characters from the dragon tribe play parts in the plot, such as Naga and Holsety. In Elibe, the dragons took human form and were forced into another world during the Scouring, a war between humans and dragons.
Manaketes are very strong due to their abilities. They are some of the most powerful units in the Fire Emblem series. Although they have low stats, in Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi dragonstones are extremely strong weapons, and in Monshou no Nazo, transforming into dragons gives them breath weapons that are also very effective. In Fuuin no Tsurugi, The Sacred Stones, Shadow Dragon, and Shin Monshou no Nazo, the dragonstones give them high stat bonuses and are very useful weapons.
Manaketes do not change class. In Shadow Dragon and Shin Monshou no Nazo, to account for this, their maximum level is 30 instead of 20.
