The Corsair (Japanese: 湖賊 Lakethief) is an enemy-exclusive base infantry class which is exclusive to Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. Unusually, Corsairs are identical to the more common Pirate class in virtually every way, and play the same role as axe-wielding units with the ability to freely cross water terrain. Unlike Pirates, Corsairs cannot promote.
There are no differences between the Corsair and Pirate aside from their names and descriptions, as both their stats and their appearances are exactly the same. Corsairs only appear once in the entire game, in Chapter 23E/24H (Linus), with only eight Corsairs appearing in that chapter. The class's help description and Japanese name suggest that Corsairs are adept at fighting on lakes, in contrast to Pirates operating at sea, although in terms of gameplay there is no difference at all between lake terrain and sea terrain, and both classes have the exact same terrain parameters. It is possible that the class exists solely for aesthetics, to fit better in in-land chapters with lakes and rivers, although there are maps with lakes in prior and later games which still use Pirates.
Given their identical stats, Corsairs play the same gameplay role and stick to the standard Fighter archetype. They have very high strength, HP and constitution, as well as good speed, which lets them be slightly less affected by weapon weight than most other axe-fighting classes. However, their skill is poor, and their defensive stats are lacklustre.

Corsair |
A synonym for "pirate", with a strong association with the French corsairs, hired pirates acting as privateers to raid ships on behalf of the French crown. The word "corsair" derives from the French corsaire, which itself derives from the medieval Latin cursārius, "pirate". |
