Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Adel joins relatively useful in chapter 1, his Vantage skill can be pretty helpful at a lot of points since hitting an enemy before they attack you in this game will end combat in most circumstances. However, at about the midway point of the game it will be difficult for Adel to keep up with enemies in agility and this will not activate as frequently. Adel also comes with the Supporter skill which gives 20% accuracy and 4% critical rate to Leon if he is within 3 hexes of Adel, Leon also has this skill and it affects Adel with the same effects in his case, but it does nothing for no other playable character. This can be helpful for keeping the two together to increase their effectiveness relatively significantly, but ultimately the usefulness of this is gated by how effective each of these characters can be otherwise. The unfortunate truth in this is that Adel simply does not have very good means of defeating enemies, since his damage output at base is not very high, and he has no skills, such as Deathmatch, Continuation, or Counter, to increase his damage output, along with there not being many good spear options to nullify this for most of the game.

Adel does have a defense advantage over Leon due to his higher shield skill and the Shield Master skill he eventually gets, but this does not matter very much since Adel's spear skill's base and growth are pretty terrible, and being a walking shield wall is a role that can be fulfilled more effectively by many other characters. His promotion requires 30 spear and 20 shield--he can reach the shield requirement fine but getting him to 30 spear will be excruciatingly painful in almost every circumstance. You could perhaps argue that he doesn't need the promotion, but having a low skill on your only weapon skill is pretty much always bad, especially in a weapon type that doesn't have many good accuracy options--on top of the fact that he won't get the free stats from the promotion for a long time to make up for being kind of lackluster. Leon can help with Adel's accuracy, of course, but also, why would you bother with how bad Adel's damage output is? Adel may be worth it to field just to support Leon, as Leon is more capable of providing more with his Deathmatch skill and better spear skill. However, Leon can get accuracy from other means so it would not be a huge deal, as fielding Adel for his own merits is really not worth it for a lot of the game.
