An Ill Presage is the twenty-second chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. This chapter sees the Shepherds en route to the Dragon's Table in pursuit of Validar in order to recover the Fire Emblem before it's too late. Standing in their way is Aversa, commanding a group of 12 beings rooted in Jugdrali lore and given a Plegian touch; some of these beings even wield weapons of Jugdrali origin.

An Ill Presage/Script
The Shepherds encounter villagers possessedly marching towards a structure identified as the Dragon's Table by Frederick, who also reports Validar having moved there. Chrom surmises that these are signs of Lucina's cataclysmic future, and the Shepherds make way for the Dragon's Table. As the Ylisseans arrive, Validar orders Aversa to distract them while he finishes preparations, though to be careful that they can reclaim Robin's power. Validar taunts Chrom over the future already being set and Aversa reveals that Walhart had intended to conquer Plegia and stop them from reviving Grima. Validar then leaves and Aversa commands the Deadlords to defeat the Shepherds.
In battle, Aversa can reveal to Chrom that Validar was her adoptive father; she can reveal to Robin that Excellus was their puppet in Valm, meant to collapse the empire from the inside should the Shepherds have failed. Upon her defeat, Aversa flees, and Chrom concludes that Validar's preparations must already be complete.
Summary
The Ylisseans go to the Dragon's Table to retrieve the Emblem, but the ritual to resurrect Grima is already underway. They break through and head for the altar.

Strategy
This section details unofficial strategies that may help with completion of the chapter. This may not work for everybody. |
For a chapter this late into the game, an enemy headcount of 13 is very out of place. However, these 13 units are the boss Aversa and the 12 Deadlords, a group of boss-level enemies last encountered nearly three milennia ago in Belhalla.
The Deadlords all wield powerful weapons; Jugdral Regalia or A-B rank (potentially forged) weapons. Six of them also drop items (Balmung, Helswath, Gungnir, Yewfelle, Valflame and Recover) that serve as this game's equivalent of S/SS-ranked weapon sets of prior games acquired through the story. They also have multiple skills on higher difficulties.
Initially, the Deadlords don't move. However, the east and west squads have "group AI"; provoking one member of the squad will provoke all four into charging. Regardless, on turn 6/4/3 (Normal/Hard/Lunatic) all twelve will charge without provocation, which can easily overwhelm the player.
Mus is armed with a Brave Lance, effectively giving him an Adept that always procs. However, Pavise isn't the damage-negater it used to be, and Mus lacks 2-range and has lower RES. He has no answer to being 2-ranged with magic.
Bovis is now a Bow Knight, seemingly going down the other branch of Mercenary promotions from the Hero-like Forrest. With a Brave Bow, Bovis has enough firepower to make 2-ranging him with magic users somewhat unsafe, while Bowbreaker helps him win archer duels. It's best to simply tank his hits and attack him at 1-range once he is baited in.
Tigris is still a Warrior, but the class has been massively buffed compared to its weak FE4 self. On Hard and above, he packs Counter, so avoid fighting him at 1-range. His Helswath is 1-2 range though, so you will still eat a counter. It is droppable, however, so try to avoid letting him consume durability on it before you get a chance to kill him.
Lepus is no longer the helpless High Priest she was back in the day, now packing a Brave Axe/Forged Silver Axe as a War Cleric. However, she still lacks any threatning offensive skills or statline, only having Miracle to throw a monkey wrench into a kill setup. She drops a Recover, so try to avoid leaving enemies alive for her to use up its durability.
Draco is still a Sniper, and is specced for high 2-ranged offense with extremely high accuracy. He is actually quite fast due to Yewfelle's +5 SPD, but like Bovis, he has no 1-range option. He drops the Yewfelle, so try to avoid letting him get any attacks in.
Anguilla has gotten on a horse and is now a Dark Knight. She's actually quite dangerous, as Thoron gives her a fair bit of crit and is 1-2 range so avoiding a counter can be difficult. She is, however, on the slower end so doubling her with a Longbow can be a safe way to deal with her.
Equus looks nothing like his old self, from infantry magic user to Gungnir-wielding Paladin. With Aegis, his mixed bulk is actually quite high, and with +5 STR from Gungnir he actually has rather high single-hit damage. It's best to bait someone else in his squad and 2-range him to death, if only to avoid wasting Gungnir uses.
Ovis is still a Sage, and packs the new Tornado, Rexcalibur. Fortunately, he no longer lacks the skills needed to spam it on your units, though he does have an alarming 48 MAG on Lunatic, ensuring he will hit very hard.
Simia is still a Swordmaster, and is still extremely fast. With Balmung boosting her speed even further, she has 51 SPD on Lunatic. Her 1-range damage output is extremely high as a result of this, and Swordfaire patching up her damage output. Don't let her attack at 1-range and pelt her to death with ranged attacks.
Gallus is now a Sorcerer and packs a forged Waste tome. While his damage output is tremendously high and capable of 2HKO'ing somewhat often, Waste is still very inaccurate, and as such 0%-ing his hit rate can be doable, so long as you don't give him a chance to get in your face.
Canis got herself a horse and a promotion, and is now a Valkyire. Her Valflame is actually quite valuable; while you get Aversa's Goetia later on, Valflame is still a stastically superior to it. She is quite frail when stacked up against her companions, with a mere 68 HP and 20 DEF on Lunatic, so a good brave weapon or Dual Strike should down her before she gets a chance to attack.
Porcus is now an Assassin, and is a 7-mov infantry unit with Pass. As long as you're aware of that, he isn't too big of a threat with his Brave Sword, as high-DEF units can realistically take little damage from him. He is also frail, and a 2-range barrage should defeat him with little effort.
As for the actual boss, Aversa, well... she's a flier boss that doesn't move and has no answer to bow-effectiveness. While she does have high SPD and LCK, and thus AVO, bow users, particualy Snipers, are accurate and also somewhat fast, so a decently-leveled Sniper should be able to shoot her down with little effort.
