The Mage Fighter (マージファイター, Maaji Faitaa) class is a class exclusive to Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It is one of the few classes that can use both magic and physical weapons; mage fighters can use fire, thunder, and wind magic, swords, and, only for female mage fighters, staves. Mage fighters are quite similar to mage knights, the main difference being that mage knights are on mounts.
Mage fighters are very useful, able to stand up against both physical and magic enemies. Still, their main area of expertise is magic instead of defense. Since they can also use swords, however, their magic stat is lower than that of other promoted magic classes, such as the Sage class. Still, they have very high stats, being promoted units, and are overall very adaptable and versatile fighters.
Mages, thunder mages, and wind mages all can become mage fighters.
Strangely, mage fighters are absent from Seisen no Keifu's sequel, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. Presumably, the fact that mage knights could now dismount and temporarily act as foot units nullified the purpose of the mage fighter.
