Walhart (ヴァルハルト Valhalt) is the current emperor of Valm, widely known by his epithet "The Conqueror". He was responsible for, through conquest, reuniting the continent into the modern incarnation of the ancient kingdom, transforming Valm from an unremarkably small nation into a continent-spanning powerhouse[1].

Walhart managed to take over the country of Valm and transform it from a backwater nation into a powerful empire, with the ultimate goal of defeating Plegia and stopping them from resurrecting Grima. He eventually took over the entire continent before setting his sights on the eastern realm of Ferox. Walhart sent a powerful navy towards Ferox, but his forces were beaten back by the combined efforts of the Feroxi military and their Ylissean allies, led by Chrom and the Avatar. After they broke through the Valmese ships and reached Valm's soil, Walhart's forces faced more defeats as Chrom rescued the leader of the anti-Valm resistance, Say'ri, and awakened the Voice of the Divine Dragon, Tiki. His army faced another crippling blow when Chrom toppled Walhart's central division at Fort Steiger. Walhart then fought a small division of Feroxi forces led by the khans Basilio and Flavia. Walhart personally took the field and defeated Basilio in battle, apparently killing him. (However, Basilio had been warned of his destined death by Lucina, and conspired with the Avatar to fake his death as part of a plot against the Grimleal.) Basilio's attack turned out to be a distraction which Chrom used to attack and defeat Walhart's southern division, led by Say'ri's brother General Yen'fay. The loss of Yen'fay forced Walhart to retreat and regroup, allowing Chrom's forces to attack the capital of Valm and defeat Walhart, apparently killing him.
However, Walhart survived and found himself in an area just north of his capital, where he managed to subjugate a group of Risen through sheer force of will. Chrom, discovering this, headed there and defeated Walhart once again, this time convincing him his strength would be better used working with Chrom to defeat Grima. Walhart joined Chrom's forces and helped slay the fell dragon.

Personality and character
Walhart is a strong believer in rule through blunt force, fear and conquest. He sees absolute power as the key to true peace, believing that war is significantly less likely if there is only one united nation[2]. He has no patience for the cowardly, the weak and those who lose in combat. He is incredibly strict and speaks in a manner which is slightly difficult for others to understand. He is entirely merciless in combat and as a rule, and yet he nonetheless proved to be a highly charismatic ruler among the people of Valm.
In spite of his fierce militarism, Walhart's ambitions for seeking to conquer the Ylisse continent were positive: his intent was to defeat Plegia before it could follow through on reviving Grima. He is also a staunch vegetarian.

Quotes
Battle quotes
“ | Behold: I am Walhart the Conqueror! And you are but a pebble upon my path to immortality. | ” | — Walhart, as the boss of Chapter 19. |
---|
“ | Why do you resist me, little Prince? [...] I would end the reign of the gods, and you object on moral grounds?! Blood is spilled in any new birth, Prince. And in many a just cause, as you know... [...] By whose laws do you judge me? Yours? Your sister's? The gods'? [...] Look at you! Are you not ashamed? Your mind is filled with nothing but secondhand beliefs. You dance upon the stage of your gods like a mindless puppet! THAT is what I reject: being a slave to tradition, to obligation. The old ways. Damn the gods! Damn their fates and their destinies! I will have true freedom! And man who offers less is my enemy. [...] Ha ha ha! Better, Prince. Much better! Be not an agent of someone else's justice, but justice itself! Now, let us fight as two great men, freed of their gods. I grant any challenger the chance to test his will against my own... But you, too, shall be found wanting! | ” | — Walhart, against Chrom, as the boss of Chapter 19. |
---|
“ | You would challenge the Conqueror himself?! | ” | — Walhart, as the boss of Chapter 20. |
---|
“ | Prince... [...] Don't waste my time with questions you know the answers to, boy. [...] ME, JOIN YOU?! Does a pegasus join with the flea on its back? A dragon, with a cow it eats?! You forget your place, BOY. I am the Conqueror! I will unite the world! [...] You think that's what you've done? What your sister did before you? No, she shouted some nonsense and leapt off a rock! Such weakness! [...] And longer than you will... Come then, flea, and die for your peace! | ” | — Walhart, against Chrom, as the boss of Chapter 20. |
---|
“ | In this land, I have crushed a multitude of Risen and made them my own. You snuffed my dreams of conquest... I dare you now to snuff the spark of life within my breast! | ” | — Walhart, as the boss of Paralogue 19. |
---|
“ | My heart beats no more... But the flame of life within me refuses to gutter out. This marks the third and final time our blades will cross! [...] We have EVERY reason! A conqueror rules by strength alone. Defeat is death, and I must rise again! [...] Such arrogance. This world is mine! I'll suffer no one to harm what is mine, be they man, dragon, or otherwise. [...] Words will not divert my course. Only steel! If you would claim me, draw your blade and make it so! | ” | — Walhart, against Chrom, as the boss of Paralogue 19. |
---|
“ | Only a wretch would grasp at the gold clinking in the pockets of others. You want to steal from a conqueror? Best pray that coin doesn't melt in hell. | ” | — Walhart, in The Golden Gaffe. |
---|
“ | True conquerors eschew meat and dine on the bounty of the earth! Would you deny me sustenance? Then you will pay! | ” | — Walhart, in EXPonential Growth. |
---|
“ | I, too, felt dead when my current comrades ended my cause... But I did not wallow in that defeat. I found a new path. I could have been like you, but I am not. If I die, it will not be standing still! | ” | — Walhart, in Infinite Regalia. |
---|
Death quotes
“ | Nngh... You think you have won? You blow as if to douse a candle, but you only stoke the fires of hell! | ” | — Walhart, as the boss of Chapter 19. |
---|
“ | Nngh... Do you see? Often the sword...is the only way... My conquest...ends here... | ” | — Walhart, as the boss of Chapter 20 |
---|
“ | Ngh... Then the exalt-to-be is...the conqueror in true... | ” | — Walhart, as the boss of Paralogue 19. |
