The Sage (賢者 or けんじゃ, Kenja, meaning sage, wise person) class is the promoted version of the Mage class. That is, in many games, mages change class to sages. They generally use several types of magic, which vary greatly in different games. Usually, they can use the same magic types as mages, with one or two added.
Sages can attack from one or two spaces away, and farther away with high-level magic such as Bolting. However, they usually have below-average defense, which makes them quite vulnerable to physical attackers. However, most physical units, besides others with high resistance such as pegasus knights or falcoknights, have low resistance, making them vulnerable to magic. Usually, sages should be positioned directly behind physical units to protect them from attacks, but they should still be close so they can attack on the player's turn.
Although sages are absent in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, they are replaced by the Fire Sage, Wind Sage, Thunder Sage, Light Sage, and Dark Sage classes.
