Tormod (Japanese: トパック Topuck) is a young, energetic mage in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. He and his companion Muarim aim to free all of the laguz still enslaved in Begnion.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Role
Tormod first appears in Chapter 15, wherein he orders an attack on the Greil Mercenaries as he believes them to be present solely to take the laguz he wishes to protect and free back into slavery. At the end of the chapter, after Muarim surrenders, he returns to prevent them from harming Muarim and chastises him for trying to sacrifice himself. He later explains to Ike what the Laguz Emancipation Army actually is, and the truth of what the Begnion Senate is up to. In the following chapter, he joins Ike's team properly after talking to Sanaki about the slave trade, and sticks with him for the rest of the Mad King's War.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Tormod is the last unpromoted beorc to join the group. He joins very underleveled as a level 7 mage, with base stats that are decent for his level but extremely low for his join time. Immediately, he can deal OK damage thanks to using 1–2 range magic and keep up with mounted or promoted units due to Celerity; he can also use Meteor immediately thanks to his base fire weapon level. However, he will not be doubling for a long time and he is very frail. Thus to get much use out of him, he requires a significant amount of BEXP before being deployed. If one wants to use Tormod, it is highly recommended to avoid killing any laguz in the preceding desert chapter, as the BEXP reward for this objective is very generous and Tormod is an excellent recipient for it.
Tormod's main niche is Celerity, as it gives him more move than all other mages in the game, and allows him to keep up with mounted units with a generous 8 move upon promotion. This gives him a huge advantage over other mages since they have lower move than most other infantry classes and cannot keep up with mounted units. In addition, Tormod's growths are well-balanced for a mage, having decent but not excellent growths in magic, skill, speed, and resistance, with mediocre growths in his physical stats. Tormod grows into a balanced powerful magic-user with good 1–2 range, good damage via hitting resistance, and doubling. His strength growth is not great, but it is just enough for him to wield most non-siege tomes after promotion without losing speed. When promoted, he should use staves as it gives him more utility when not used offensively. Ultimately Tormod is a character that requires significant investment, but thanks to Celerity and well-rounded mage stats, he is an excellent long-term payoff unit.
As Celerity is a very powerful skill and is the main reason to use Tormod, it should never be removed. This also means he only has 10 capacity remaining for other skills. Tormod's good long-term stats means he is flexible with any useful skills, as long as he has space for them. Offensive skills like Adept, Wrath, and Resolve all work for him and improve his offense. In the Japanese version of the game, he can also take Vantage with forged thunders with 255% crit, which lets him slaughter almost everything in enemy phase before they have a chance to hit him. Miracle can help his survival rate, though it is unreliable and his luck growth is not great.
Tormod has a fire affinity which gives an attack and accuracy boost. Devdan and Reyson both have fire affinities as well, giving a generous +3 attack and +15% hit to both units at A support. Note that in Reyson's case, he cannot attack, so the support benefits are purely one-sided. Calill is another good mage with a dark affinity that complements his fire affinity; as a primary combat mage, both units benefit a lot from the +3 attack as well. Sothe is Tormod's weakest support option, having a wind affinity, being a weak combat unit, and being unable to promote. Note that all of these options have lower move than Tormod, so it may be troublesome to keep them together.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Role
Tormod first appears as an NPC in Part I, Chapter 7 along with Muarim and Vika. He will move to talk to Sothe. Once he talks to Sothe, it is revealed that Sothe asked him to inform Sanaki of the current situation in Daein. After remarking on Sothe's height, Tormod tells Sothe that Sanaki will be sending an investigation team and has ordered the Begnion troops to stand down.
When Muarim is secretly drugged by Izuka, Tormod attempts to comfort him, and is deeply grateful when Rafiel sings the galdr of rebirth. Tormod angrily storms off once he is aware that Izuka drugged him, and is only barely persuaded to stay by Sothe. After Daein is liberated, Tormod, Muarim and Vika return to the Grann Desert.
The three do not return until Part IV, Chapter 4, where they are attempting to hold off Disciples of Order. The Greil Army arrives to save them, and they join forces. Tormod explains that he was compelled to travel to the Tower of Guidance by a dream, and Ike explains that the dream was sent by Yune.

- Note: The above stats are Tormod's default stats. If a Radiant Dawn game was started via a data transfer from Path of Radiance and Tormod managed to reach level 20 in his highest possible class in the Path of Radiance save file, any stat Tormod capped in Path of Radiance will result in a boost to his base in the stat in question in Radiant Dawn. The boost is a +5 for max HP, and +2 for strength, magic, skill, speed, luck, defense or resistance. In addition, Tormod's weapon level at the end of a transferred Path of Radiance game can result in an boost to his weapon experience in Radiant Dawn. See Data transfer § Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for more information.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Tormod is a prepromoted Fire Sage that joins Micaiah's group during Chapter I-7. For his join time, he has good offensive base stats, giving him solid magic 1–2 range offense through Part I. His physical durability is enough to take a few hits for an enemy phase, though he is nowhere near as durable as units like Sothe and Nolan. He also has innate Celerity which gives him excellent mobility through Part I.
By the end of Part I, Tormod is no longer a playable unit until Chapter IV-4, where he is force-deployed and one chapter away from endgame. Due to this, it is highly recommended to remove Celerity and all weapons and items in his inventory in I-E and transfer them to the convoy or another unit, as any weapons or items remaining in his inventory will be lost forever once he leaves. At this point, he is a very weak 2nd tier underleveled unit; most combat units at this point should be a high leveled 3rd tier unit. This puts him in an awkward situation, as he is too high leveled in Part I to really invest in (and attempting to do so can deprive the rest of Micaiah's team of experience points, with very little beneficial results), and too underleveled in Part IV to really contribute meaningfully. His only significant contribution without investment in Part IV is meteoring doors and weakened enemies.
Tormod has good growths in skill, speed, and resistance, and average growths in magic. Strangely, his strength growth is among some of the best in the game for magic users, though it is mostly wasted as his base strength is already high enough to handle the weight of many tomes in the game aside from long-range tomes such as Meteor. Furthermore, his growth rates are not high enough to cap ram certain stats, to patch his weaker growths, so he will not cap many stats on average for endgame. It is awkward and wasteful to try to raise him, but if the player wishes to, it is recommended to go to the advancement of IV-4 then return to base to throw several levels of BEXP on him and during the chapter itself, have him deal killing blows to weakened enemies to maximize the amount of experience gained (equipping Paragon will help significantly).
Tormod can promote to Arch Sage, which grants him the ability to use staves. Unfortunately, he starts with an E rank in staves much like all other anima specialists arch sages, with no exemptions in regard to his limited availability. At this point in the game, staff users should be trained to be able to use more powerful healing staves such as Recover and Physic, while Tormod is stuck with the basic Heal staff. His low staff rank can be patched through the usage of Arms Scrolls. Tormod can be a possible candidate for a Rexflame user, but again, his availability does not give him much time to start building up his weapon level to an SS rank, again, can mitigated with Arms Scrolls which are readily available near the end of the game. As an Arch Sage, Tormod has a speed cap of 32, limiting his ability to double most enemy units in endgame. However, equipping Rexflame will grant an extra 3 points in speed, allowing him to have up to 35 speed, just enough to be able to double Dheginsea and all of the enemy spirits on his own without Nasir's White Pool.
Tormod's Celerity skill is one of the most useful skills in the game, giving +2 move. It helps Tormod a lot in Part I, but due to his availability, other units after Part I will make much better use of it, so it is better to remove it in I-E. Other skills don't work well for him as any skills put on him after Part I, can only be put on him for IV-4 (by returning to the base) and endgame. If one wishes to use Tormod for endgame, he will make great use of Paragon once he is under the player's control again in IV-4, as his rejoining chapter has a very high number of enemy units, which (with proper planning) will guarantee his promotion to an arch sage just in time for the final few chapters. Aside from Arms Scrolls, Tormod can quickly increase his weapon ranks by using the Discipline skill, especially his staff rank. After promotion, Tormod's physical durability coupled with his already solid speed growth should be sufficient enough to take a few blows in IV-4 without dying, so one can simply let an enemy or two attack him so that he can retaliate with staff counterattacks to build up his staff rank.
Tormod has a useful fire affinity which gives an attack and accuracy boost. His only viable partners are Muarim and Vika, as they share the same availability as him in that, they're guaranteed to be with him through Part I and also IV-4 and onward. Neither have affinities that complement his fire affinity. Otherwise units with a fire or dark affinity can help him, but he is better off unsupported due to his availability.

Personality
Tormod is a young boy who thinks highly of his magical abilities, describing himself as the world's greatest mage.[3] He is shown to be very impatient throughout the games. Tormod considers others' safety before his own.[4] Tormod especially cares a lot about his adoptive father-like figure Muarim, to the point that he refuses to allow Muarim to sacrifice himself to protect him.[5]
Tormod is very passionate about emancipating all of the laguz that remain enslaved by Begnion's noble class. He wishes for a world where the Laguz can live peacefully and freely.[6]
Tormod also feels insecure about how little he grew in the three years between the games compared to Sothe and Ike.[7]
