“ | You're like those heroes that appear in the sagas that bards sing! You appear, help the needy, and leave as suddenly as you had come... | ” | — Larum, on Echidna |
---|
Echidna (Japanese: エキドナ Ekhidna) is a warrior of the Western Isles, and the leader of the resistance against the colonial Etrurian occupation of the Isles. When Roy started opposing the Etrurian abuse of the people of the Isles, Echidna joined up with his army upon the request of Larum, a resistance member.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade
Role
At the time Roy's army arrived at Mount Eburacum, Bishop Orlo's soldiers had extracted from a villager the news that Echidna was in hiding in a village near the mountain's base, and launched an assault on the village to arrest her. Echidna emerged and engaged the army in battle, rather than surrendering. During the skirmish, she was approached by Larum, who had joined up with Roy's army, and was convinced by her to ally with Roy in opposing Etruria's Isles operations and beyond.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Echidna joins as a prepromoted Hero in chapter 11A of The Binding Blade where she will come out of upper yellow house on the right side of the map on turn 8. She will be ambushed by 3 enemies that can attack your units as well, so it's important to keep your fragile units out of range. She does have a small chance of death if she gets hit by all of the three enemies, but this is quite rare.
She joins with high bases in areas such as strength, speed and skill, but low ones in areas such as luck, defense, resistance and constitution. She also has low growths in every area besides HP, ensuring that her stats will not improve much. She comes equipped with a steel axe which lowers her speed a lot because of its high weight and Echidna's low constitution, so it's recommended to trade her lighter axes or swords. Her weapon levels are fairly high allowing her to wield powerful weapons such as killer axes, killing edges and wyrmslayers at base, this along with her high strength and speed allows her to be a potent combat unit in her joining chapter as well as many of the next few chapters as well, but her low defense and somewhat low HP means that fighting large groups of enemies is quite risky with her even if dodgetanking is fairly viable in The Binding Blade. Because of her low growths and low bulk she will fall off near the lategame, as she will have trouble doubling some of the enemies and one rounding them without a crit, even so she can still contribute well during the later chapters thanks to her having access to both axes and swords. She's a great candidate for both Durandal and Armads thanks to her high base weapon levels, but these weapons should not be used much before chapter 23 if the player desires to get the true ending.
Overall, Echidna is a solid unit with great combat for a few chapters, but will fall off before long. Even so, she's still perfectly usable in later chapters and is one of the few viable axe users in the game.
In comparison to Bartre
Depending on the village you visit in chapter 9, you can either get access to the path where you get Echidna or the path where you get Bartre. Bartre is overall bulkier thanks to his higher HP, luck and defense, along with being stronger with a high 22 defense. Because of his high consitution he can use heavy wepons without losing speed, while still being light enough to be rescued by units like Shanna, and has access to bows wich are useful for dealing with numerous dangerous enemy flyers. Unlike Bartre, Echidna has very high speed and skill which allow her to double and hit enemies consitetnly which is fairly rare in The Binding Blade. Most importantly Echidna has access to swords which are a much better weapon type than axes and bows, along with a high enough weapon level to use powerful ones such as killing edges, making her a much better bosskiller and her overall combat much more consistent.
Overall, because of her more balanced stats and access to a better weapon type, Echidna is generally prefered over Bartre.
Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
Echidna is one of the characters added to the game in the Heavenly Witness update, and became available for summoning by players on November 19, 2019. Only one variation of Echidna is currently available in Heroes, based on her The Binding Blade incarnation.

Personality and character
Echidna is self-described as being exceptionally stubborn and determined, refusing to merely surrender and insisting on fighting on even when surrounded by Etrurian soldiers.[1] She never talks about her own history, and is single-mindedly fixated on the welfare of others, determined to do everything she can to help and protect the people of the Western Isles; she is similarly humble and struggles to respond to being praised by others.[2] She is blunt and honest, directly criticising Larum for her infamously poor cooking skills,[3] being entirely honest about her motives in seeking the help of others, and in her opinions of Gonzalez's situation regarding his appearance and ostracization.[4] During the war, she was determined to spend her time after it constructing a new village in the Isles to provide homes for all those who lost their livelihoods to the war, and actively sought as much assistance as possible from others, including Lot, Wade, Geese and Gonzalez.[5]
