Conrad (Japanese: コンラート Conrad) is a paladin appearing in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. He was not present in Fire Emblem Gaiden and is a new addition to the cast introduced in the remake. He is Celica's elder brother who vanished after the fire that killed many of his siblings. He has lived and honed his skills in hiding with his mother and Halcyon in Sage's Hamlet for several years.

Role

Conrad is the only character to join Celica's party that is in the cavalier class line by default, being a paladin. He is the latest joining character in Celica's group, joining after Nomah, who holds that status in the original Gaiden.
The Valentia Accordion art book implies that after the foundation of the One Kingdom of Valentia, he was the one who provided Zeke the mask he wore during his time in Archanea under the alias "Sirius".

- In Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, promotion gains give the character as many points as necessary—the "x" value shown in the table—to reach the promoted class' base stats. If the character's stats are higher than their promoted class' base stats, they will not receive any bonus; however, if all stats are higher, then they will receive +1 to HP.
Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Conrad is pretty terrible. He joins near the end of Celica's route as a level 7 paladin, when most of your other units will likely have reached their final promotions by this point. His poor availability makes it hard for him to promote to Gold Knight before the tower. Additionally, Conrad's bases and growths aren't particularly good and he will not be able to make great use of his high movement as one of the two maps he is present on during Act 4 is a swamp map that heavily lowers his movement. Conrad does have one notable use, his great resistance and decent HP allow him to be a decent counter to enemy magic users, but by this point the player should have units who can deal with them better than Conrad. Conrad also is not a very good unit to take to the tower as you have better options for Gold Knights form Alm's route, such as Mathilda or Mycen, and Conrad is unlikely to reach promotion on faster playthroughs because of his low base level. If the player decides to invest into Conrad, he will make for a decent unit for the final part of the game as his growths are quite decent and Gold Knight bases are very good as well, but not much more than a filler combat unit.
Fire Emblem Heroes
Role
There are two different variations of Conrad available to Heroes, both of which are tied to his storyline appearance in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. The normal variation of Conrad is one of the characters added to the game in the Lethal Swordsman update, and was made available to players in the thirty-sixth Grand Hero Battle, which initially ran from October 24, 2019 through November 2, 2019. A Valentine's variation of Conrad was made available between February 7, 2020 and March 6, 2020 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Lovely Gifts update.
The Valentine's variation of Conrad is the first character to make use of a new facet of summoning introduced with the Lovely Gifts update, in that he is summonable at both four- and five-star rarity during the banner adding the variation to the game. By extension, the Valentine's variation of Conrad is the first alternate-variation character to be summonable at four-star rarity, as all prior alternate-variation characters with a four-star non-primary variation had said non-primary variations be distributed as rewards in either Grand Hero Battle or Tempest Trials.

Personality and character

In his youth, Conrad was quite fond of Celica and Liprica, as they were the members of the Zofian royal house that treated him with the most kindness. In general, he and his mother were treated coldly due to their Rigelian origins. Conrad's mother was a Rigelian noble wed to Lima IV in exchange for food to be sent from Zofia to Rigel.[1] Additionally, due to knowing Celica from a young age, he has a strong tendency to refer to her by her real name, Anthiese. Conrad initially thought Celica died in the fire that killed the rest of his siblings, increasing his attachment to his remaining sister upon realizing that she had survived.
As a child, Conrad fell for the frightening stories his mother told him, and was afraid that he would be spirited away to Fear Mountain because he had broken a vase and not told anyone.

Trivia
- In the game's data, Conrad is designated as having Nomah's spell list. As a result, he will have innate access to all of Nomah's spells, should he use a Pitchfork to change class to Villager, and subsequently Mage (except Recover, for which he must promote to Sage).
- Conrad has the highest Resistance growth rate of any character in the base Shadows of Valentia game, at 8%. He is however beaten by the DLC character Emma, who has a Resistance growth of 10%.
