Talk:Luke

From Fire Emblem Wiki, your source on Fire Emblem information. By fans, for fans.

Should Luke and Ryan's pages be moved to their NoJ names? Many names are misromanized, especially in Jugdral, and we have their pages at their NoJ names (unless there's an English one). PikaSamus (talk) 15:24, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Geez, this is a tough one. On one hand, it certainly makes plenty of sense to prioritize NoJ names and it's what we've been doing for years (I wonder why these two pages were never at NoJ names to begin with). But on the other hand, there's also a pretty compelling argument to be made for shifting toward fan names for characters. For one, they're not as bad as Raian or Siglud (okay, maybe Tiltyu is that bad...). For another, it's the same argument of recognizability as with items: people are probably going to come here looking up FE12 information after playing FE12 in its translated state, so they'll be looking up Luke and Cecille, not Rook and Cecil. I know they're a different wiki and what they do can only affect us so much, but that's what WikiBound did with Mother 3 stuff (although Mother 3's fan translation is kind of an exceptional case).
That's not to say there aren't problems. The FE2 and FE12 patches are pretty stable and won't be changing much any time soon, but let's face it, people are always fighting over Jugdral names and those change every ten seconds. Unless by some miracle we someday get new Jugdral patches that are inarguably better and more settled than all the others, it's kind of silly to demand that we change pages with every new revision to reflect this.
In conclusion, why am I responding to a reasonably humble question with some Big Wiki Policy Shift Proposal? This one's way over my head. --PA (talk) 00:31, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Cecil's already at her NoJ name. Ryan is the other one I'm asking about. PikaSamus (talk) 01:23, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
I know, that was a broader example. You can tell I forgot about the specifics of your initial question very quickly, whoops. --PA (talk) 01:31, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
