Cain is a knight of Leonster guarding [[Hannibal]]'s manor, where many nobles of Leonster are taking refuge. Cain joins [[Selphina]] in the defense of [[Hannibal]]'s mansion during [[The Banner of Njörun|the attack of Thracia's forces]], with the help of [[Leif]] and his army. Along with Selphina and [[Dryas]], Cain accompanies [[Leif]]'s liberation army until at least the liberation of [[Munster]]. His involvement, if any, with the war after Leif's forces merged with [[Seliph]]'s is unknown.

Kain is a lance knight who has decent availability but mediocre base stats. While his class might seem good at first, it can actually hinder him quite a bit in gameplay, considering he must dismount indoors and will be swordlocked upon doing so. However, his growth rates are very good by ''Thracia 776'' standards, and this can be further boosted with scrolls. Overall, Kain is a weak unit, but if one desires to train him up, he can become quite powerful.

Cain joins in Chapter&nbsp;9 and is extremely underleveled for his join time. With only level&nbsp;2, putting him far away from promotion, and abysmal base stats for his join time, Cain requires significant investment to catch up with other units. His weapon ranks are also very low; outdoors, he can use D rank lances, but indoors, he is restricted to E rank swords. This prevents him from using stronger weapons to circumvent his low stats, making it even harder to train him. Compared to Alva, his stats and growths are more focused on strength, HP and defense, but with worse speed, skill and luck, which will also make it harder for him to double or even hit reliably at times, especially since he suffers from penalities when dismounted.
If Cain receives the significant investment he needs, he can grow into a competent combat unit. However, he requires more work than most other units in the game. Without favoritism, he is extremely underwhelming and typically benched at the first opportunity. Even with investment, he has no skills, no action stars, and an FCM of 1, so he has nothing that stands out when trained.
