The '''Myrmidon''' (Japanese: {{hl|剣士|kenshi}} ''Sword Fighter''), also known as the '''Sword Fighter''' (Japanese: {{hl|ソードファイター|Sōdo faitā}} ''Sword Fighter''), is a sword-wielding class present in the {{FES}}. Their first appearance was in {{FE2}}; the only games where they do not exist are {{FE1}} and {{FE3}}; however, the remakes of those games do contain myrmidons. {{FE14}} does not include myrmidons in core gameplay, instead featuring the functionally-identical [[Samurai]] class; the Myrmidon class itself does, however, appear in the [[Downloadable content in Fire Emblem Fates|DLC]] chapter [[Hidden Truths 1]] as the class used by [[Owain]] in that chapter.

The class originated as a promotion of the [[Mercenary]], akin to the [[Hero]] of most other games. In {{FE4}} and {{title|Thracia 776}}, the Sword Fighter acts akin to the Mercenary of the previous titles; however, it has two separate promotions depending on which unit is promoting: the [[Forrest (class)|Forrest]] (''Genealogy'') / [[Mercenary]] (''Thracia'') and the [[Swordmaster]]. In most games from {{title|The Binding Blade}} onward, the Myrmidon has been depicted as something of a counterpart to the Mercenary, with lower strength and defense in exchange for higher skill and speed.

Myrmidons, in most games, can be promoted to Swordmasters. Special cases are seen in {{title|Gaiden}}, {{title|The Sacred Stones}}, and {{title|Awakening}}; in the former, myrmidons are a second-tier class and can be promoted to [[Dread Fighter]]s, while in the latter two they can be promoted either to Swordmasters or [[Assassin]]s. Other options are seen in the [[Jugdral]] games; specific characters can be promoted to Forrests in {{FE4}}, and to Mercenaries in {{FE5}}.

In the [[Elibe]], [[Magvel]], and [[Jugdral]] games and {{title|Awakening}}, Myrmidons were in general strongly associated with a particular region of the continents ([[Sacae]], [[Jehanna]], [[Isaach]] and [[Chon'sin]] respectively) and almost all units of the class are from these places. In [[Tellius]] and [[Archanea (continent)|Archanea]], however, they can come from any land.
