Like the other main characters of the game, Alfonse: Prince of Askr cannot be merged for more power, kicked out of the player's barracks, or sacrificed as inheritance fodder. This severely hampers his ability to keep up with other units in the game and makes him a very hard sell. He is at least workable due to his refined Fólkvangr effect, which gives him Brazen Atk/Def 3 and propels his Attack and Defense to a dependable 42/39 when he is below 80% HP. Alfonse can inherit Brazen Atk/Def from Ares: Black Knight and make use of the Brazen Atk/Def Sacred Seal to compound this effect and make him hit very hard and take plenty of damage. Other good skills for Alfonse include Bonfire/Ignis to turn his physical bulk into more burst damage and Quick Riposte to improve his enemy phase. Despite all of this, at the end of the day he is simply not capable of doing anything that stronger and more easily obtainable units can't do better.
