'''Ylisse''' (Japanese: {{hover|イーリス|Īrisu}} ''Iris'') is a kingdom located in the south-east of the [[Archanea (continent)|continent of the same name]]. It borders the [[Plegia|Theocracy of Plegia]] to the west, and [[Ferox|Regna Ferox]] to the north. In the distant past, the territory now comprising Ylisse was part of the Holy Kingdom of [[Archanea (nation)|Archanea]], and the island kingdom of [[Talys]]. The ruler of Ylisse is the Exalt, who, at the beginning of the events of {{FE13}}, is [[Emmeryn]].

Prior to the events of {{title|Awakening}}, the previous Exalt, [[Chrom]]'s father, waged a terrible war on Plegia, with the intent of wiping out the [[The Grimleal (cult)|Grimleal]], a cult seeking to resurrect the Fell Dragon [[Grima (character)|Grima]]. The war ended with his death, and ever since then, his daughter Emmeryn had sought to repair relations between her nation and Plegia. Unfortunately, [[Gangrel]], the king of Plegia, sought only to conquer Ylisse, a desire that led both him and Emmeryn to their downfalls.

Additionally, the word ''halidom'' does not refer to nations at all, and means "the state of being holy" or "sanctuary".

**Similarly, Exalt is "Holy King" ({{hover|聖王|Sei-ō}}) in Japanese, and is not related at all to Exalted Falchion, which is "divine sword Falchion" ({{hover|神剣ファルシオン|Shinken farushion}}) in Japanese, a term used in dialogue of the Archanea games that was translated as "the divine blade Falchion" in ''Shadow Dragon''.
