In {{title|Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light}}, {{title|Mystery of the Emblem}}, {{title|Shadow Dragon}}, {{title|New Mystery of the Emblem}}, and {{title|Three Houses}}, the Wyvern Rider/Dracoknight is an [[:Category:Advanced classes|advanced class]], in the former four games being the promoted form of the [[Pegasus Knight]]. They originally wielded lances and swords, being able to use swords only when [[dismount]]ed into a [[Knight (Mystery of the Emblem)|Knight]] in {{title|Mystery of the Emblem}}. The [[Nintendo DS]] remakes changed this to have them wield [[Lance (weapon)|lance]]s and [[axe]]s, in order to differentiate the class from the [[Falcoknight]], the new alternative Pegasus Knight promotion option. This change was also reflected in how the only recruitable Dracoknight, [[Minerva]], was made to specialize in axes and came with the strongest axe, [[Hauteclere]].

In other games, Wyvern Riders/Dracoknights are instead a [[:Category:Base classes|base class]], being the basic form of a new class family independent from the [[Pegasus Knight]]. The class's primary weapon of choice was [[Lance (weapon)|lances]] until {{title|Radiant Dawn}}, when they instead began primarily wielding [[axe]]s; in ''Genealogy'' and {{title|Thracia 776}}, they could also wield [[sword]]s.
