:Upon rereading my argument, I can see all of the lacking points, sorry about that. What I meant in the first sentence was that because it is a word that doesn't appear in the dictionary and is not very familiar to the majority of English speakers it would likely be interpreted as a name. As for your other points, I'm in agreement. {{lang|ja|槍}} would be best translated as "lance" and the best interpretation of {{lang|ja|忍}} would be "ninja." The Translation
I don't agree with translating 忍の斧 as "Shinobi's Axe," it makes it sound like Shinobi is a person. If translating this weapon and the other ninja weapons as "ninja yari/axe/katana" is no good, even though 忍 (read as しのび) is an abbreviation for 忍びの者 (ninja), we should probably translate it as "stealth axe" as it is inline with the dictionary definition of 忍. - I don't see how it implies that Shinobi is a person's name. "Shinobi's axe" just means that it is an axe of a shinobi. "Baker's dozen" isn't talking about a specific person named "Baker", for example.
- Regarding shinobi vs. ninja, 忍 = shinobi (lit. just "stealth", but abbreviation of the following), 忍びの者 = shinobi no mono (lit. "stealth person"), 忍者 = ninja (also literally "stealth person" but using on readings); they all mean the same thing. While shinobi and ninja are synonyms, "ninja" would likely be more familiar to the average reader, and "shinobi" is not in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, so I suppose I would be fine with "ninja's axe".
