[[The Onslaught|Later]], Altena travelled to [[Tarrah]] during the [[Friege]] siege against it and took up residence in a house on its outskirts. When [[Deen (Thracia 776)|Deen]] came to visit, by Arion's request she gave him the [[Dragonpike]], and reminded and encourage him of his role in protecting [[Linoan]] in lieu of Arion himself.

Altena is a playable character during the second generation. In [[The Wyvern Knights of Thracia|Chapter&nbsp;8]], Altena appears as an enemy unit once [[Connacht]] has been seized. As the area near her is inacessible, it is impossible to fight her in this chapter. In [[For Whose Sake|Chapter&nbsp;9]], Altena appears an enemy unit affiliated with [[Thracia]] at the start of the chapter. If [[Finn]] is still alive and [[Leif]] [[talk]]s to her, she will retreat for the map, causing [[Travant]] to appear. Once Travant is defeated, Altena will emerge from Thracia [[castle]]. She will actively move toward [[Seliph]], and activates her own recruitement by talking to him.

Growth rates include holy blood bonuses. The inherited amount of gold can fluctuate between 2,000 and 12,000. Altena will inherit all of Quan's lances; she will always inherit [[Gáe Bolg]], regardless of whether the player obtained it in [[Eldigan, the Lionheart|Chapter 3]].

:Stats to the left of the "~" are Altena's minimum stats, those she will have if neither Quan nor Ethlyn gain any stats and the random number used to generate luck is its lowest value. Stats to the right of the "~" are Altena's average stats, calculated from her parents' average stats at level 30; this luck stat can vary by up to ±5.

* In [[Light and Dark|Chapter 10]], Leif can initiate a conversation with Altena at any time, awarding her +1 [[Luck]].

* In [[Light and Dark|Chapter 10]], [[Coirpre]]/[[Charlot]] can initiate a conversation with Altena after [[Miletos]] has been seized, awarding her +5 [[Resistance]].

Altena is the only playable [[Wyvern Rider|Wyvern Knight]] in ''Genealogy of the Holy War'', as well as the second flier you get in the second generation. She joins at level 17, thus very close to promotion, likely able to promote after clearing the arena. She has good base stats and her best growth is her 135% HP growth, but she also has great growths in strength, defense and speed and a good skill growth, improved by her two types of [[Holy Blood|Holy Blood]]: Major Njörun from her father and Minor Baldr from her mother. Altena joins with a powerful set of offensive skills: [[Critical (skill)|Critical]] and [[Adept]], and she also gets [[Follow-Up]] upon promotion, not to mention she also has the [[Gáe Bolg]], which grants her a +10 bonus to strength, skill and defense, granting her powerful offense. While Altena may seem like an incredible combat unit at first, it quickly becomes apparent how, despite her great strength, she is fairly slow and is significantly weighed down by the Gáe Bolg, which has 15 weight in comparison to other lances' 12 weight. Altena will rarely double any enemies with it after promotion, so she must either one-shot them, get a crit, proc Adept or use a brave weapon. The other lances apart from Javelins are lighter, but they're much weaker, and Adept and Critical, while useful, are not always reliable. Luckily for her, Altena can use swords, which do not slow her down as much due to their low weight, and she can use all non-legendary swords due to her Baldr blood, which grants her an A rank in swords, so she can double reliably with them. While she can deal a lot of damage, she struggles in killing enemies in one hit if she can't outspeed them.

Altena has a few other issues, however. For instance, she is a flier in Genealogy. This might not seem bad at first, as she is a prime candidate to rescue villages due to her ignoring terrain penalties, until you realise that fliers do not get terrain bonuses and don't get increased movement from roads, meaning that she will struggle to keep up with the player's cavalry. Altena is also vulnerable to arrows and magical attacks, which is a major issues in the last two chapters of the game. In these chapters, there are many magic-using and bow-using enemies that will either one-shot Altena or bring her close to death. Even though she has a high defense, her weakness to bows still causes her to take noticeable damage, and she can't afford to get hit by mages. Another thing worth noting is that unlike in most games, enemies in ''Genealogy'' will not attack if they are facing a target with very high Defense. Since Altena can frequently have 30-40 Defense, many enemies will not even attempt to attack her while she has the Gáe Bolg equipped. While this seems helpful at first, due to the high enemy density in ''Genealogy'' it can be rather irritating to defeat them one by one, especially if the player is trying to play fast.

Altena, along with [[Travant]], appears in the opening cutscene of [[The Banner of Njörun|Chapter&nbsp;9]]. In [[The Palace of Evil|Chapter&nbsp;23]], she appears as an enemy unit. Once [[Alphand]] is killed, she will move to escape the map.

Altena is present in [[The Palace of Evil|Chapter 23]] as an enemy. However, she cannot be legitimately fought or defeated, and leaves the battlefield when Coulter begins his attack.

Altena feels hesitant to meet her father when she has the opportunity to do so in {{FEH}}, as she has been raised by Travant, the person who had killed her father. She has complicated feelings about Travant – on the one hand, she despises him for what he did to Quan and Ethlyn, but on the other hand, she recognizes that he tried his best to help Thracia.<ref>{{cite|Travant took both my parents from me.
