Lucina was born two years after Chrom's defeat of King Gangrel of Plegia; like her father, she bore the Brand of Naga which marked her as a worthy heir to the Ylissean bloodline, with her Brand located in the iris of her left eye. Lucina arrived in the past shortly after Chrom's first meeting with Robin, around the same time the first Risen appeared in an attack west of Ylisstol. She saved Lissa from a Risen's blade and assisted in eradicating this first wave, and when confronted by Chrom she introduced herself only as Marth. She gave them a cryptic warning of how more Risen would come, then departed. Her first destination in the past was Basilio's castle in Regna Ferox, where Basilio let her battle against his champion, Lon'qu, whom she easily defeated once he noticed her true gender. Again introducing herself as Marth, Basilio took her on as his new champion for the upcoming tournament; Lucina agreed, intending to try and locate the Feroxi gemstone and to take the opportunity to test her strength against Chrom. Soon after, the khan regnant tournament began in the Arena Ferox, and "Marth" led a band of Feroxi warriors against Chrom and the Shepherds, the rival khan Flavia's champion. Chrom prevailed in the tournament, winning Flavia's support for the Ylissean defense effort, and Lucina disappeared again.

Still under the "Marth" guise, Lucina soon reappeared in Ylisstol following the beginning of Ylisse's war with Plegia, sneaking into the castle grounds through a wall accidentally broken by Chrom some time earlier.<ref>{{Cite|Chrom: How did you get in here?<br>Marth: The cleft in the castle wall, behind the maple grove.<br>Chrom: There? Still calling herself Marth despite the demasking, she helped defend Emmeryn while Chrom focused on eliminating their leader, Validar. She disappeared again after the battle, resurfacing briefly later on after Emmeryn's suicide at the Plegian capital, lamenting her failure to change fate.

Lucina makes two non-playable appearances before being recruited, both as her Marth guise: the first is as the boss of Chapter 4, and the second is as a NPC in Chapter 6 assisting in Emmeryn's defense; in both cases she has set stats and skills which are not affected at all if Chrom is already married at this point. An alternate-timeline NPC Lucina also appears in the DLC episode The Future Past 3: this Lucina's stats and skills are affected by those of her parents, and her death will result in a Game Over.

Lucina joins at the end of Chapter 13 with fairly weak bases as a level 10 unpromoted Lord. As the only mandatory character among the second generation, she can have trouble finding a place on the team if the second generation is ignored since she only supports her parents, Robin, and Tiki. However, she easily has the potential to become the strongest character in the game with enough investment. Lucina boasts very strong class inheritance from her father Chrom and most of her available mothers are able to supplement her needs quite nicely. In addition, her growths are solid enough that she can quickly catch up with the rest of the party with a bit of babying. Lucina automatically inherits Aether from Chrom regardless of whether or not he has learned it and where it is in his skill pool. While Chrom's mods lean towards a physical glass cannon, most of Lucina's potential mothers have somewhat poor Strength mods, meaning she overall tends towards a "swift but frail" stat spread. Above all, Lucina wants the Galeforce skill, which gives her four viable mothers and two bad ones.

If Chrom does not have a wife by the end of Chapter 11 due to his potential love interests being married off or dead, he will marry a generic Maiden. The Maiden provides absolutely nothing for Lucina, making her nothing more than a very slightly stronger Chrom; this pairing should be avoided.

Lucina appears as an equippable Emblem Ring in FE17. She is first seen (under the name ???) as a Dark Emblem synced with Hortensia in Chapter&nbsp;7. She becomes available to the player during Chapter&nbsp;11, either being automatically synced to Alear once a player unit crosses row 24 and spawns Ivy's group, or automatically at the end of the chapter if Alear manages to escape on turn 1. ===Role===
Role
There are six different variations of Lucina available to Heroes, all of which are tied to her storyline appearance in Awakening. The normal variation of Lucina is one of the characters available to be summoned by players from the game's initial launch. A spring-themed variation of Lucina was made available between the period of March 30, 2017 through April 14, 2017 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Spring Festival update, the update where this variation was added to the game. A variation based on her masked "Marth" guise was made available as a reward for the first Tempest Trials event, "Dark Clouds over Awakening", held between June 8, 2017 to June 22, 2017; this variant was later redistributed in the first edition of Tempest Trials Mini, "To Die on the Battlefield, held between September 8, 2017 through September 15, 2017, then again in the seventh edition of Tempest Trials, "A Gift of Peace", held between December 26, 2017 through January 9, 2018, and again in the fourth edition of Tempest Trials+, "Sweet Dreams", held between July 15, 2018 through July 25, 2018. A brave variation of Lucina was made available on August 31, 2017 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Brave Heroes update. A fifth variation, termed "Glorious Archer", is the game's ninth Legendary Hero, first made available to players on July 31, 2018; this variation of Lucina is the first character in the game that wields a blue bow. A Valentine's-themed variation of Lucina was made available between the period of February 8, 2022 through March 8, 2022 as part of the summoning event surrounding the launch of the Here with Me update; her outfit is based on the outfit she wore in the artwork of the Fire Emblem Awakening Original Soundtrack.

A rearmed variation of Lucina, based on her appearance as a Great Knight, was added on December 7, 2023.

The multiple variations of Lucina are notable for having multiple different English-language voice actors between them. Lucina's normal variation is voiced by Laura Bailey, reprising her role from Awakening and SSB4. Alexis Tipton voiced Lucina's later variations and reprised the role in Warriors; this may imply that the role was formally recast between the recording sessions for the game launch and the Spring Festival update.

Lucina possesses a strong sense of justice and believes that saving the world is her mission and burden, and that failure is not an option. She greatly respects and adores Chrom, and as a result of his death in her bad future, she is constantly worried about his safety and sees his survival as paramount to the fate of the world. As an Emblem, Lucina does not have any support conversations. However, upon reaching bond level&nbsp;5, 10, and 20 with any character, she has short bond conversations with them instead, which unlock the next bond level. Increasing bond level provides a variety of bonuses, such as raising the stat bonus Lucina provides to synchronized units, inheriting weapon proficiencies, unlocking new sync skills and engage weapons, or extending the duration of each engagement.

Lucina (SSB4)
Revealed in a trailer on July 14th, 2014 alongside Robin and Captain Falcon, Lucina is a newcomer playable character in SSB4. She is a straight clone of her ancestor Marth, featuring mostly identical attacks and motions with variations in her parameters; the main difference is that Lucina's sword's power is distributed equally along the blade, whereas Marth's sword is most powerful at its tip. Director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed in his column in Famitsu that Lucina was originally planned simply as an alternative costume for Marth, but as development progressed, her attributes were altered to diverge from Marth's, leading to Sakurai's decision to turn her into her own separate character.<ref name="gonintendo-ssb4-20140717">{{cite web|url=http://www.gonintendo.com/s/233268-sakurai-talks-lucina-s-inclusion-in-smash-bros-wii-u-3ds-why-chrom-didn-t-make-the-cut|author=RawmeatCowboy|site=GoNintendo|title=Sakurai talks Lucina's inclusion in Smash Bros. =====Special moves=====
All of Lucina's special moves are the same as Marth's, including their name. They are as follows:

* Shield Breaker (Japanese: シールドブレイカー Shield Breaker): Lucina's standard special move. A lunging stab which can be charged up for a short period of time to strengthen the blow; at full strength, it can pierce shields.
* Dancing Blade (Japanese: マーベラスコンビネーション Marvelous Combination): Lucina's side special move. A combination of four sword strikes, which attack in different directions depending on which way the analog stick is pointed for each swipe.
* Dolphin Slash (Japanese: ドルフィンスラッシュ Dolphin Slash): Lucina's up special move. A sweeping upward strike which carries Lucina into the air; can be used as a recovery move to try and climb back onto a stage if Lucina falls off.
* Counter (Japanese: カウンター Counter): Lucina's down special move. Lucina assumes a brief defensive stance and will retaliate if struck in this stance.
* Critical Hit (Japanese: 必殺の一撃 Critical Hit): Lucina's Final Smash. A single rapid strike across the battle field which deals immense damage to the foe if it hits, accompanied by a rapidly depleting Fire Emblem-style HP bar.

Lucina returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, remaining a clone of Marth.

The Palutena's Guidance regarding Lucina is reused from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. However there is no Codec Conversation about her as they are reused from SSBB, which Lucina did not appear in.

Lucina changes from the previous game were identical to Marth's, however since she lacked the tipper mechanic she is considered to be buffed overall. The increase in her speed and the game's mechanics greatly benefit her, and she is considered to be a very strong character in the current metagame.

In the World of Light, Lucina was vaporized alongside all the other characters except Kirby. She cannot be rescued until the player first defeats Galeem, where the player can then traverse through Dharkon's realm.

Special moves
* Shield Breaker (Japanese: シールドブレイカー Shield Breaker): Lucina's chargeable standard special move. Lucina lunges forwards and stabs the opponent, dealing more damage when fully charged. The move also deals signficant shield damage and can break shields at full charge. A new addition to the move is the ability to angle the move upwards or downwards, which is also retained in Marth's variation.

* Dancing Blade (Japanese: マーベラスコンビネーション Marvelous Combination): Lucina's side special move. A combination of four sword strikes, which attack in different directions depending on which way the analog stick is pointed for each swipe. The move is significantly faster than its previous incarnations, making it easier to perform all four moves; this also holds true for Marth, Roy, and Chrom's variations.

* Dolphin Slash (Japanese: ドルフィンスラッシュ Dolphin Slash): Lucina's up special move. A sweeping upward strike which carries Lucina into the air; can be used as a recovery move to try and climb back onto a stage if Lucina falls off. It grants great vertical distance but little horizontal distance.

* Counter (Japanese: カウンター Counter): Lucina's down special move. Lucina assumes a brief defensive stance and will retaliate if struck in this stance, cancelling the foe's attack and dealing more damage to the foe than Lucina would have sustained.
