Besides her awful bases, Lilina's biggest problem when being trained is the amount of competition for a Guiding Ring. First, when it comes to the other two mages available in the game, Lugh can be trained up to near promotion by the time she joins, and has better speed and skill, while Hugh, although joining later, has better HP, Constitution and resillence. Ellen, Clarine, and especially Saul will also want one to raise their staff rank up by a tier. If she does not get the first one, she will have to wait until chapter 14, where Sophia will be most likely much weaker than her, except then she will still have competition in not only whoever of the aforementioned characters is still being actively used, like Raigh. Not to mention that there are also pre-promoted units that would be more useful than her, like Cecilia, Niime and even Yoder.

In terms of elemental affinities, Lilina has the light affinity; it boosts her and her partner's attack, defense, accuracy and critical, all bonuses that, aside from accuracy, he and other characters might need. When training her and making supports with her, Roy becomes the best support and the easiest to get for her, due to both having the same movement (except in the desert) and gaining most support points per turn when being together; Roy grants her his Fire affinity, one of the best in the game, reinforcing her attack, accuracy and critical. Other good alternatives to support Lilina, although a bit tougher, are Gonzalez, Ogier, Astolfo and Garret, as all of them will likely have the same movement as her, specially when she and all of them are promoted. Gonzalez comes with his Thunder affinity, which reinforces her avoid and crit, and also granting dodge. Both Ogier and Garret grant her their Wind affinity which grants bonuses in hit, crit and dodge. Astolfo's affinity is dark, which grants her some accuracy, avoid, critical and dodge.
