Five years prior to the events of Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, Ayaha was an idol and inspiration to her younger sister Tsubasa Oribe, and the two would often sing together. Unbeknownst to Tsubasa, Ayaha would frequently struggle with imposter syndrome, questioning her abilities as an idol and working hard into the night to compensate.
She would be involved in a play called "The Pilgrimage of Heinrich" alongside her co-star Chikaomi Tsurugi, and Tsubasa was in the audience to watch her sister perform. However, during the play Chikaomi became possessed by the Mirage Gharnef, who transported everyone in the theater to the Idolasphere, with the exception of Tsubasa, who was rescued by Tiki.
Within the Idolasphere, Gharnef attempted to perform the Opera of Shadows to revive the Shadow Dragon Medeus, but his plan was foiled when Chikaomi resisted his control and gave his life to rescue his son Yashiro Tsurugi, who was also in attendance. Gharnef searched for another human vessel that could contain his power, but kept Ayaha as a vessel for Aversa.
Aversa would magnify Ayaha's self-doubt and magically sealed her ears, causing Ayaha to become emotionally dependent on the Mirage. Her dress from the play would be replaced by a tattered red robe with Grimleal iconography. Over time, her memories of Tsubasa would become clouded.
Five years later, Itsuki, Tsubasa, Touma, Kiria, and Maiko would encounter a possessed Ayaha during a Mirage attack on the Shibuya 106. Kiria is wounded protecting Tsubasa from Ayaha's attack, but Ayaha recognizes their faces, and the shock causes her to retreat into the 106 Idolasphere. Itsuki, Tsubasa, and Touma pursue her inside, where Ayaha is unable to hear their words due to Aversa's spell. The group concludes that Tsubasa needs to sing a heartfelt song to pierce through Aversa's spell and reach Ayaha. The plan works and Ayaha rejects Aversa's influence, allowing Itsuki to sever their connection and for the group to defeat Aversa in battle.
After the rescue, Maiko wishes to have Ayaha eventually return to being an idol, but after a recovery period. In the meantime, Ayaha is assigned a secretarial position at Fortuna. In addition to work such as welcoming guests and scheduling meetings, Ayaha is encouraged by Maiko to investigate unusual behavior in the industry that may be tied to Mirage activity, and to inform Itsuki of her findings.
During Tsubasa's audition for the TV show "Sneeze Detective Maho", the director Kuen Tarachino is possessed by a Mirage and tasks Tsubasa with completing several acting trials. One of these is a hostage situation, where "Ayaha" appears to be held captive by the Mirage. However, after successfully acting out the scene, Tsubasa finds that the Ayaha was actually a Mirage in disguise. In Tokyo, Maiko had sent the real Ayaha on some errands during this time, unaware of the situation in the Idolasphere.
Shortly after Medeus is revived and Itsuki's group tells Maiko, Barry, and Ayaha of the grim news, Ayaha offers them words of encouragement as they embark to slay the dragon.
