Supports can allow Lugh to fight better on enemy phase. That said, building up supports in The Binding Blade is a significant time investment. His best support partner is Raigh, because he grants Lugh full hit and avoid. They also share movement, making it more convenient to keep them in support range. Chad is a solid alternative. He grants Lugh full avoid and full crit while having similar movement. That said, Chad will most likely need to open chests if deployed, making it less convenient to keep him near Lugh. Besides, deploying Chad is only useful if a chapter requires his thief utility. Chad is not good at fighting, so deploying him only to support Lugh is questionable.

Comparison with Hugh
Compared to Hugh, Lugh performs similarly. However, the situation may vary: Hugh's performance depends on how much money is paid to recruit him into the army (5,000 G - 10,000 G). Hugh joins in chapter 16 in the mid-game as a level 15 mage, with average bases ang good growth rates. Assuming Lugh is well trained, Hugh could face a promoted and higher level Lugh at the time of joining the army. However, Hugh can compensate for this because he is at a level where it is also possible to promote him in his joining chapter. Because of this, both mages are valuable assets to the player's army.
In terms of stat growths, and assuming that both are at the same level, almost Lugh's stats are a bit higher, but Hugh has the advantage of having a very large amount of HP from all magic users. In addition, Hugh has a very high constitution of 7 compared to 4 of Lugh's, making him much faster and giving him the advantage of using heavy tomes without weighing him down. Both of them, when promoted, both are easy to train them in staves, which makes them very good staffbots. The two mages have a bit of competition for a Guiding Ring to promote to Sage, although Lugh is likely to be promoted first than Hugh. Ultimately, the decision to use Lugh or Hugh comes down to whether or not he player is willing to wait to use Hugh or not; while it could be possible to play through the entire game without using Lugh, it limits the player's potential variety due to a lack of other anima magic users, except for female anima users such as Cecilia.
