Chad is the first thief you get in ''The Binding Blade''. He joins with low bases, but high growths, however said growths don't help him very much as thieves cannot promote in ''The Binding Blade'' and his incredebly low bulk prevent him from being trained up without being exposed to many risks. However, Chad's main asset isn't his combat, but his ability to open chests, doors and steal items from enemies. As the first thif he has a high number of chests and doors to open, particularly in chapter 6, as well as steal the red gem from the wyvern in chapter 7. Unfortunately for Chad in chapter 8, [[Astore]], another thief joins who outclasses him pretty badly. Astore joins with much better bases and a C rank in swords which make him a fairly decent combat unit, unlike Chad and the player can also obtain Cath who is fairly similar to Chad. Items such as chest and door keys become buyable which lowers Chad's nieche even further. There are still some chapters where bringing two thieves can be useful, but other than that there's little reason to deploy Chad after the earlygame.
