Journal
Byleth's journal is available at their room. It grants the player access to a variety of features, though most of them are only available through New Game +.
Unit Appearance
The Unit Appearance submenu is the only one that is available to the player on a non-New Game+ playthrough. It allows them to change the appearance of their units both at the monastery and on the battlefield. As of version 1.2.0, it can also be accessed by pressing the L button on the activity selection screen.
As part of the Expansion Pass, new costumes were added to the game. However, most of them are only available to Byleth and their students. Flayn and Cyril are treated as students for the purposes of choosing their outfits.
At the monastery, the following outfits are available:

In battle, the player can choose between two options: They may either use the unit's battle outfit - using an outfit based on the unit's class - or their monastery outfit, using whatever outfit they chose for that unit at the monastery. Mounted units do not allow the player to use the unit's monastery outfits.
The Commoner and Noble classes will always use a unit's monastery outfit.
