The Sorcerer (ようじゅつし,"sorcerer", or ソーサラー) class is a magic-using class that first appears in FE2. In this game, it is an enemy-only class. After disappearing for a long time, the class appears again in FE11 and FE12, as a promoted class that can use tomes and staves. It again appears in FE13, having lost the ability to use staves, but is one of only two classes capable of using dark magic without the Shadowgift skill.
The Sorcerer (Japanese: ソーサラー Sorcerer) is an advanced magical class which debuted in FE2. Originating as an enemy-exclusive class, from Shadow Dragon onward it became a playable class as the primary promoted form of the Dark Mage; it is the successor of the earlier Druid and Dark Sage classes. Sorcerers primarily wield offensive magic, and in Awakening have exclusive access to dark magic alongside normal tomes. The Nintendo DS remake duology also gives Sorcerers the ability to use staves.

In Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, there is one playable sorcerer, Etzel. Although there are no playable dark mages at first, units can be reclassed to the Dark Mage class and then promote to the Sorcerer class.
Aside from their access to dark magic, Sorcerers are differentiated from their counterpart magic classes - the offensively potent Sage and the staff-proficient Bishop - by their defensive prowess, having high defense and resistance stats in addition to their excellent offensive magical power. In exchange, their skill and speed are somewhat inferior. The role of a Sorcerer is that of an offensive tank, being able to take hits with relative ease while damaging foes in return; in Awakening, it is further aided in this task with its unique access to the Nosferatu tome, healing it even as it retaliates against foes.

In Gaiden, sorcerers can be slightly difficult enemies, having high resistance and average defense. Later, in Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, they are a powerful playable and enemy class, since it is a promoted class. They are useful because they have higher defense than most magic classes, making them less vulnerable to physical attacks, and because they are generally able to cause a large amount of damage, especially against enemies with low resistance.
As an enemy-exclusive class in Gaiden, the Sorcerer is not connected to any other class in a class change tree, although the Exorcist class can be considered a stronger version of it. From Shadow Dragon onward the Sorcerer is the advanced version of the Dark Mage, though in Awakening Dark Mages can alternatively promote into Dark Knights.

The Exorcist class can be considered a stronger version of the Sorcerer class in Gaiden. More recently, in Shadow Dragon, New Mystery of the Emblem, and Awakening, the Dark Mage class promotes to the Sorcerer class.

The Sorcerer (Japanese: ソーサラー Sorcerer) is an advanced magical class which debuted in Fire Emblem Gaiden.
