Class change/GameCube and Wii games
This sub-page covers the class change stats for the two Fire Emblem series games which comprise the Tellius duology: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
The Path of Radiance class change system returns to each base class having a single class change option, and condenses class change items into a single item for all classes: the Master Seal. However, a Master Seal is not the only way to promote—compatible units will automatically promote without one if they gain 100 more experience after reaching Level 20. When promoting, a unit's pre-existing weapon levels are boosted to match the promoted classes base rank for the weapons in question, if they are lower; if they are higher than the promoted class's bases, they are left unchanged. This is expressed in the table below as (x to [rank]).
Ike promotes to Lord automatically in an event at the end of Chapter 17. Of the two playable Thieves, only Volke is capable of promotion to Assassin, doing so in an event at the end of Chapter 19 if the player selects to hire him; Sothe cannot promote at all.

1 When a Sword, Lance, Axe or Bow Knight promotes to Paladin, the player is offered a choice of secondary weapon out of the three weapon types the unit previously did not know. Whichever one they choose, the unit is granted an E rank in that new weapon. 2 When a Mage promotes to Sage, the player is offered a choice of a secondary weapon for them: staves or knives. Choosing staves gives the Sage an E rank in staves, while choosing knives gives the Sage the Knife skill. 3 There are no playable Bandits, but the class's ability to promote is programmed into the game and left unused.[1] |
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
The class change mechanics of Radiant Dawn remain mostly the same as in Path of Radiance, with the addition of a third tier promotion for every advanced class. In all cases of promotion regardless of tier, either gaining 100 EXP after reaching level 20 or the use of a promotion item (Master Seal for basic classes, Master Crown for advanced classes) are the means of accessing promotion (however, in the Japanese version, advanced classes cannot promote through leveling and instead must use a Master Crown). For third-tier advanced classes, mastery skills are learned automatically upon promotion and do not require an item like in Path of Radiance.
Micaiah and Ike both promote in events throughout the game: Micaiah promotes first to Light Sage at the end of the Part I, Endgame, and then again to Light Priestess before the beginning of the Part IV, Endgame. Ike promotes to Vanguard before the Part IV, Prologue commences. While both recruitable Rogues—Sothe and Heather—promote to Whisper, Sothe does so only in an event at the end of the Part IV, Prologue, while Heather promotes normally through experience (barring a glitch where she does not promote if she reaches level 21 by stealing) or a Master Crown. Mist promotes to Valkyrie through normal means, except instead of a Master Crown, she is only capable of using a Holy Crown to promote by item.
