Knoll (ノール, Nooru) is a shaman who appears in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. He is one of Grado's royal mages who formerly worked closely with Prince Lyon researching the Fire Emblem. He joins in Chapter 15.
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Role
In Eirika's route, Knoll appears in Chapter 15 along with Ephraim and Duessel, arriving from the south to help Eirika. Ephraim mentions him as a Grado citizen, who had told him about a "Dark Stone", causing a dark wave of energy. According to Knoll, Vigarde had been dead for a while, and everything past that was planned by Prince Lyon. His name is mentioned in passing, but in Ephraim's route, his role is expanded on much more.
He appears in Chapter 14 of Ephraim's route, in which Ephraim conquers Grado Keep itself. When the battle is over, Ephraim finds Knoll in a cell. He states that he is a former researcher of mysterious matters. Ephraim asks him about Lyon, and Knoll proceeds to tell him everything he knows about Lyon's actions and the war. He tells the story of what happened to cause the war.
Emperor Vigarde died a year ago of illness, devastating Lyon. Without his father he felt powerless. However, Lyon began to try to work to resurrect him using the power of Grado's Sacred Stone, also known as the Fire Emblem. With a team of mages, including Knoll, he conducted research with the stone and eventually, after many tireless days, the Fire Emblem was shattered in two - the Sacred Stone, and a Dark Stone. Knoll arrived just in time to see Lyon resurrect Vigarde and then destroy the Sacred Stone.
Afterwards, Lyon asked his father to order the invasion of Renais. Knoll was scheduled to be executed, most likely for knowing too much about what had happened; his execution had been scheduled for the day after Ephraim arrived.
He leads Ephraim to the Sacred Twin weapons of Grado: the dark magic tome Gleipnir and the black axe Garm.
Afterwards, Ephraim explains this to Eirika briefly in the same manner. Knoll joins Ephraim's army and fights with him for the rest of the game.

Personality and character
Knoll is a quiet man, not very talkative or social. He is slightly awkward and overly formal in conversation, and slightly shy. However, he is good-hearted, having helped Lyon with the same vision. Together, and along with the rest of the team of researchers, they aimed to avert disaster. According to him, future catastrophes cause ripples in time that can be read.[1] He seems to have good reflexes, having dodged Lute's attacks twice.[2] He is very intelligent, and knows much about magic and the flow of time. Wise but antisocial, he is a mysterious figure.
Knoll was formerly a research for Prince Lyon and Grado's royal court. He and Lyon seem to have been close, as Knoll holds Lyon in very high regards, to the point that after Lyon is lost to the Demon King, he feels that he has lost everything.[3] He recognizes Natasha as one of the clerics at the Imperial Temple.[4] He still holds faith in Grado, however, and after the war, helps in the restoration of Grado. Afterwards, he disappears, never seen again.
