Renais' Sacred Stone

The Sacred Stones are five stones of much magical power, after which The Sacred Stones is named. While the stones never appear as usable items, nor do they have sprites, they play an integral part in the storyline.

History

Long ago, the legendary heroes used the Sacred Stones to seal away the soul of the Demon King. The five stones were then distributed to the rulers of what became the five great kingdoms of Magvel: Renais, Frelia, Jehanna, Rausten, and Grado. Each country hid its Sacred Stone in a secure location so that they would be protected should the Demon King ever again pose a threat to Magvel.

Before the events of the game, Lyon, prince of Grado, took the Sacred Stone of Grado and concentrated its dark energy into another stone called the Dark Stone and then destroyed the original Sacred Stone that held the Demon King. The remaining course of the story in The Sacred Stones shows the prince of Grado setting off to destroy all the Sacred Stones. During the game, the Sacred Stones of Frelia and Jehanna were destroyed by two of Grado's generals; Selena and Caellach destroying Frelia's stone in the Tower of Valni and Jehanna's destroyed by Callech himself. Lyon sought out Renais's stone, unaware it was under Renais' castle, and thus formulated a plan to take it from one of the Renais' royal twins depending on who's route the player chooses. He manages to succeed and disappears away to Darkling Woods. The remaining Sacred Stone, Rausten's, was guarded and Eirika and Ephraim must defend Mansel in order to gain the Sacred Stone as well as the Sacred Twin Weapons.

The Sacred Stones source of power is human will. As L'Arachel states: "...the source of its power is human will, the desire for peace within our hearts." As such, all units who were in the previous battle against Lyon will all concentrate within their own minds the peace they want which ended up sealing Fomortiis's soul within the remaining Sacred Stone. With his soul taken away, the Demon King's body had no control, allowing the units to attack him without him being a substantial threat although the body itself can still deliver heavy blows to units.
