— Fae

Fae (ファ Fa) is a Divine Dragon residing in Arcadia, and the last surviving pure-blooded dragon in Elibe.

Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Role

When Roy's army left Arcadia to continue the war in Etruria, Fae wished to go with them but was forbidden from doing so by the Arcadia elder; nonetheless, she snuck out on her own and was captured by an Etrurian Revolutionaries detachment led by Bern, at a castle on the Etrurian border. She was rescued when Roy learned of her escape and led an assault on the castle. Roy chose to let Fae remain with his army, instead of possibly risking her being caught again on her way back to Arcadia, and she fought in the war.

If she is still alive at the time, Fae is a mandatory unit in Chapter 24 and the Final Chapter. Her survival at the end of the game is one of the criteria to obtain the game's perfect ending, along with having Roy use the Binding Blade to kill Idenn.

Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade

Role

At the time Eliwood, Hector and Lyn came to the Nabata desert in search of "the living legend", Fae was looking after a small house near the desert border. She passed on to Eliwood's group news that treasure could be found in the desert by sifting near the bones, having also told Pent this earlier.[1]

Personality and character

Despite being several hundred years old already, Fae is in practice little more than a young child. Having spent most of her life locked indoors in Arcadia, she loves playing in and exploring the outside world and takes an interest in almost everything she sees; she has a particular interest in things she finds pretty, such as Elphin's hair[2] and butterflies.[3] She has trouble listening to orders given to her, finding them to be "no fun" no matter how important they are.[4] When stories are read to her, as Niime did, she tends to fall asleep once they're finished.[5]

Fae has trouble understanding certain ideas, such as her destiny to live for near-eternity;[6] however, she fully understands the concept of death and is distraught at Sophia's suggestion that she would one day die while Fae continues to live. For this reason, many of the people who interact with her deliberately avoid explaining the deaths of others to her, such as Igrene telling her about her deceased daughter, with whom Fae used to be friends.[7] Upon hearing Jahn's story of the Scouring at the Dragon Temple, she was upset by the idea that she would one day be an enemy to humans.[8]

  1. "You know what? I'm watching the house all by myself. Do you know how to do that? You have to sit and be good. So that's why I'm here. What are all of you guys doing? Are you hunting for treasure, like that other guy? Let me tell you a secret. There's something good buried near the bones. I know stuff like that." — Fae, Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword
  2. "Fae likes you, too, Elphin! Your hair blows in the wind, and it's like gold when the sun's all shining on it! Fa likes pretty things like that!" — Fae, Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
  3. "Igrene! Look, look! A butterfly!!" — Fae, Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
  4. "Fae: Roy's orders are no fun.
Igrene: Fae, you should be doing what you're told.
Fae: Aww... But Fae doen't want to.
    Igrene: Fae.
    Fae: ...Er...
    Igrene: Say you're sorry.
    Fae: ...Fae's sorry.
Igrene: Look, Fae. You promised Roy that you would do what he asked, right? If you make a promise, you have to keep it. Okay?
    Fae: Okay...
" — Fae and Igrene, Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
  5. "Niime: Once upon a time, humans and...demons lived in this land. The demons used their immense power to destroy the humans. The weak humans could do nothing but watch as the bodies piled up... And then one day... Eight bright columns of light were born that would defeat the demons.
    Fae: Were they pretty lights?
Niime: Yes. ...The humans used the lights to fight the demons. After a long and devastating battle...the demons were finally defeated. But that wasn't the end...
Fae: Mmm... ... ... Fae's all sleepy now...
" — Niime and Fae, Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
  6. "Fae: Why does Fae stay little? Why doesn't she grow up like you?
Sophia: You are a full-blooded dragon... A dragon's lifespan...is close to eternity... I have human blood in me...so I grow faster than you... Do you understand...?
    Fae: No...
" — Fae and Sophia, Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
  7. "Fae: But... She stopped coming to play with Fae. Fae asked Sophia about her, but she wouldn't tell. Is it Fae's fault? Was Fae a bad girl to her? Did Fae make her get angry and go to the faraway place?
Igrene: No...that's not the case. She was never mad at you, Fae. She just can't play with you any more. But... She'll always be very fond of you, Fae.
" — Fae and Igrene, Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
  8. "Roy: What's wrong, Fae? You look like you're about to burst into tears.
Fae: Is...is Fae also an enemy...?
    Roy: Huh?
Fae: When... When Fae gets big, will Fae become a bad dragon, too?
Roy: !? Wait, Fae. Tell me what you want to say, slowly.
Fae: That man said so... Dragons and people can't live together...
Roy: But you were living in Nabata with people, weren't you?
Fae: But the Demon Dragon is a Divine Dragon like Fae! And you're going to fight the Demon Dragon, right? What about Fae? If Fae grows up and becomes like the Demon Dragon, then...
Roy: You don't have to worry about that. Even if you grow up, you'll always be Fae. You'll always be together with humans, and with us.
    Fae: ...Really?
Roy: Sure! And also, I actually want to help the Demon Dragon.
    Fae: Help?
Roy: The Demon Dragon is not acting on her own will...she had her soul destroyed. I... I don't want to kill her, if I can avoid it.
    Fae: ...Fae doesn't get it.
Roy: You'll understand when you're little older.
" — Roy and Fae, Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
  9. "Elphin: Fae. Fae...the name has a unique feel to it. Is it your real name?
Fae: No, Fae's real name is verrry long. But they say that it's a sound that humans can't hear. Fae's the only part that you can.
    Elphin: I see.
Fae: But maybe you could hear it, Elphin! You make so many pretty sounds, maybe you could hear Fae's real name!
Elphin: Shall we try some time?
    Fae: Yeah!
" — Elphin and Fae, Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi
