Altea

The Kingdom of Altea (pronounced /ɑlˈteɪə/[key][1]; Japanese: アリティア Aritia) is a small island nation of the Archanea continent. It is situated in Archanea's central-western region, lying between Khadein on the mainland to the north and Dolhr on the large landmass to the south, and bordering Gra to the east.
Originally Altea was a minor province of Archanea, but after the War of Liberation, the hero Anri forged his own kingdom there after his defeat of Medeus. For a hundred years and through five successive kings, Altea was the home of the divine blade Falchion and revered as a force for good to protect the land from the threat of dragons. Its final king was Marth.
History
Originally little more than a rural region of Archanea with a few villages, the Altea region was the birthplace of Anri, a peasant turned hero. The errant Princess Artemis of Archanea fled to the region to take refuge from her country's domination at the hands of the Dolhr empire, where she and Anri met. Guided by the White Sage Gotoh, Anri departed for the Ice Dragon Temple to claim the Falchion and use it to slay Medeus and end the war. Afterward, he founded the Kingdom of Altea in the year 500 and became its first king.
After Anri's death, an inheritance dispute caused the kingdom to split in two: the eastern half of the island was formed into the separate Kingdom of Gra, which later became a close ally of Altea. Anri's successor was his brother Marcelus, from whom all subsequent Altean kings are descended; Marcelus's heir was his son Marius, who in turn was succeeded by his own son, Cornelius.
One hundred years passed before the onset of the War of Shadows in the year 600, marked by the revival of Medeus and the restoration of the Dolhr Empire several years previously. The then king of Altea, Cornelius, departed with the Falchion to fulfill his destiny as Anri's heir, but was killed upon the sudden betrayal of Gra. From there, Dolhr and Gra forces laid siege to Altea itself, killing Queen Liza, capturing Princess Elice and forcing Prince Marth into exile in Talys. Three years later, Marth departed for Aurelis with a retinue of knights, allying with it and the remnants of Archanea to form a resistance army which eventually reclaimed Altea and toppled Dolhr's grip on the world.
Three years later, while Marth was deployed in Grust and Macedon to investigate and dispel alleged uprisings, the Archanean army under the command of Emperor Hardin invaded and conquered Altea, sparking the War of Heroes. After a lengthy detour to the Ice Dragon Temple as his ancestor did, Marth returned to Altea and reclaimed it for the second time.
After the War of Heroes, Marth briefly became the king of Altea, but with the heirs of the other kingdoms surrendering their nations to his rule, Altea was merged with all of them into the United Kingdom of Archanea. Altea itself came under the protection of a newly-formed elite brigade of Temple Knights.[2]
