Nosferatu (リザイア, Rizaia, officially translated Resire where not called Nosferatu) is a recurring magic tome, appearing in all installments of the Fire Emblem series except Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Tsurugi and its remake Shadow Dragon. In every appearance, it has an HP drain effect - the damage the tome deals to the enemy is used to heal the caster's own HP. While in the majority of appearances the amount of HP recovered is equal to the damage dealt to the enemy, some games modify the amount of recovered HP to half the damage dealt.

Throughout the series, Nosferatu has been given multiple weapon types, some seemingly contradictory with each other. It originated as a black magic spell in Gaiden, is a general tome in Monshou no Nazo and its remake, became a light tome in Seisen no Keifu, Thracia 776, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, and is a dark tome in Fuuin no Tsurugi, Blazing Sword, The Sacred Stones and Awakening.

Nosferatu

A term for a vampire, used here in reference to the HP-draining effect. The word "nosferatu" is ostensibly of Romanian origin, but its true origin is contested; it was popularised by author Bram Stoker in his novel Dracula[1].
