Fire Emblem If (Japanese: ファイアーエムブレムif Fire Emblem if)[1] is a turn-based strategy role-playing game, currently in development for the Nintendo 3DS system. It is the fourteenth instalment in the Fire Emblem series. It was officially revealed in a Nintendo Direct broadcast on 14 January, 2015.[2] It has been stated that the game will not be connected to any previous entries in the series in terms of plot or characters.[3] Character designs and artwork will be handled by Yūsuke Kozaki, who was also responsible for the character designs of Awakening, while the story will be written by the manga storywriter and novelist Shin Kibayashi.[3]

Plot

Gameplay

It has been mentioned in the Nintendo Direct broadcast that the choices the player makes during gameplay will have a "greater than ever" effect on the game's world,[3] though it is currently unknown how great an effect. It was also revealed that the game will feature challenges "the likes of which have never been seen in the series, up until now".[3]

From the teaser trailer, it has been confirmed that Pair Up will return.[2] The game introduces what appear to be Japanese-style equivalents to the traditional weapon triangle of sword, lance, and axe: the katana (刀), a form of single-edged sword, the naginata (薙刀), a type of polearm with a weapon triangle advantage over swords, and the kanabō (金棒), a truncheon-like weapon. Bows have also gained a placement in the weapon triangle; so far, they are known to have a disadvantage to the katana.

Chapters

Characters

Seven named characters appear in the teaser trailer: Kazahana (カザハナ), Hinoka (ヒノカ), Rinka (リンカ), Felicia (フェリシア), Ganz (ガンズ), and Max (マークス). The trailer also prominently features a blue-haired woman, whose name is currently unknown. A character named Kamui (カムイ) appears wielding a sword called 夜刀神, which literally translates to "Night Blade God". Kamui's apperance is inconsistent, seeming to have male and female variations of map sprites and different hair colors. The enemy faction portayed in the trailer are known as the "Soldiers of the Dark Night" (暗夜兵).[2] The enemy faction's name may have some connection to Kamui's sword.

Development
