Elwind (Japanese: エルウインド Elwind) is a wind tome which debuted in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, appearing only in games which feature the three separate anima magic types of fire, thunder and wind. It is a superior version of the basic Wind tome which strikes the foe with powerful blade-like blasts of wind.
It is the second "stage" of the hierarchy of wind magic, requiring a higher weapon level to use than Wind, and is the wind counterpart to Elfire and Elthunder. It is itself surpassed by the more advanced and powerful Arcwind and Tornado/Rexcalibur tomes.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U
This article or section is a short summary of Elwind. SmashWiki features a more in-depth article. |
Elwind is Robin's up special move in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The move acts as Robin's recovery move; Robin fires blade-shaped blasts of Elwind downward beneath them, propelling themselves upward as the blasts damage anyone they hit, dealing 5% damage each. Elwind is also used as a finisher for Robin's neutral attack if the player keeps rapidly pressing the attack button during it, finishing the combo with a flurry of small Elwind blades which quickly rack up damage.
Like all of Robin's weapons, Elwind - both as an up special move and as part of Robin's neutral attack - is governed by an emulation of the Fire Emblem durability system. It begins a match with 9 durability points, which are subtracted from until it runs out, at which point Elwind "breaks" and must be left to recharge for 6 seconds before it can be used again, during which the move will fail if the player attempts to use it. Each use of Elwind, whether it be the up special or the neutral attack, consumes one durability point.
As with all special moves in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Elwind has two alternate variations which can be applied to Robin as customization options. These moves are found at random and collected during the course of the game's other modes, such as Classic Mode and Smash Run.
- Soaring Elwind (Japanese: 変則エルウインド Irregular Elwind) reduces the height Robin is carried with the first blast, but the second carries them significantly higher, greatly boosting their recovery.
- Gliding Elwind (Japanese: スラントエルウインド Slant Elwind) casts the first blast at a 45 degree angle below Robin, greatly improving their horizontal recovery, then fires the second blast at the normal straight-up angle. Both blasts deal less damage.
Fire Emblem Cipher
Elwind is present as a skill on two cards in Fire Emblem Cipher: S02-005ST Little Mage, Ricken. It is a manual-activation skill which, for a cost of flipping 1 bond card, adds the common "Anti-Fliers" skill to Ricken until the end of the turn, temporarily giving him an effective bonus of +30 to his attack power when fighting flying-type cards.
