Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Eckesachs ((エッケザックス Ekkezakkusu, or Exaccus in the fan translation) is one of the eight Legendary Weapons of Elibe. It was used by Hartmut the Champion to battle dragons during the Scouring. It is particularly unique in that it transforms from a spear-like weapon into a large sword when used in battle. It appears to be associated with lightning, as the other Legendary Weapons are with other elements (e.g., Maltet with ice, Durandal with fire). When used from a distance, it sends out a wave of energy to attack the opponent.

It is available only in Fuuin no Tsurugi, and is only usable by Zephiel.

Etymology

Eckesachs comes from Old German ecke, meaning "sharp" (in modern German it means "corner"), and sachs, meaning "knife" or "sword." In the Eckenlied, it was the legendary sword of Theodoric the Great, who obtained it from a giant named Ecke. There is therefore wordplay on the sword's name, as it was both Eckesachs ("sharp sword") and Ecken sachs ("Ecke's sword").
