The Torch is an item in the Fire Emblem series. It allows the user to extend their sight range in fog of war. The effect does dwindle as time goes on, meaning that one has to use the Torch often if they want to keep their sight maximized.
As with the fog of war mechanic itself, the Torch first appeared in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 and appeared in each game until Radiant Dawn. The torch also appears in the game code for Shadow Dragon but goes unused, partly due to fog of war being exclusive to the multiplayer mode. Despite New Mystery of the Emblem having two fog of war chapters (both of them sidequests), neither the Torch nor its staff counterpart appear in that game.

Unused | If hacked into the game, the item can't be used at all in the main game due to lack of fog of war maps to use it on. The Torch can presumably be used in the practice and local multiplayer battle modes if fog of war is turned on. As it cannot be obtained legitimately, attempting to use a Torch in an online multiplayer battle may have banned your game from the online server. |
Trivia
- The Torch's unused appearance in Shadow Dragon is the only time in the series that a Torch item was coded into a game without a Torch staff counterpart.
