Nintendo (任天堂株式会社, Nintendō Kabushiki gaisha) is a video game company originally founded on September 23, 1889.[1] When founded by Fusajiro Yamauchi, it was a card producer. In 1963, Yamauchi renamed the company from Nintendo Playing Card Co. Ltd. to just Nintendo Co., Ltd. and began changing industries to such things as a taxi company, a love hotel chain, a TV network, and a food company. About three years after the company name was changed, Nintendo became a video game developer.[2]
Trivia
- The company name can be translated into English as "leave luck to heaven".[3]
- Nintendo of America is the owner of the Seattle Mariners, a Major League Baseball team.[4]
