Skin design

Hi Dkpat,

I was wondering a few things on how you were able to build the current Fire Emblem wiki's skin:

  1. Is the wiki background built into the skin or is it added in via CSS? File:Wiki-background at the moment says its blank and doesn't exist.
  2. Is the skin based off Vector or did you create it from scratch?
  3. Really interested in how you moved the logo from the normal position in the top left corner to the center of background top (header area).

Thanks for your time and would greatly appreciate a response,

Hi Nerfie! The skin here does not make use of any wiki side files for its design. All of the code for it is determined in the CSS and PHP files. I think This particular skin was built using monobook as a base (one of the last ones that I did that for) I made two other wiki skins after this one which were essentially the same skin for different wikis (luckily one of them has been retired because it looked awful with the color choices that were made). Take a look at Golden Sun Universe (my home wiki) for another example. Using monobook as the base made it fairly simple to position the logo in the middle, though I definitely don't recommend starting from monobook anymore. Instead you should follow the skin creation guidelines which mediawiki has now outlined on their wiki. Hope this helps! Dkpat (talk) 19:06, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
thanks Dkpat for answering if I have any difficulties, i'll be sure to ask. Hopefully creating a new skin based off vector won't be too hard. Would you recommend adding in a navigation menu bar (drop downs) and possible footer to the skin directly or just use javascript to insert a template for those purposes? --Nerfie (talk) 04:33, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
forgot to ask, what is the dimensions of the actual background you used? --Nerfie (talk) 22:07, 16 February 2017 (UTC)
