Talk:Robin

From Fire Emblem Wiki, your source on Fire Emblem information. By fans, for fans.

Name

Maybe I'm wrong, but shouldn't the name of this page be Robin? After all, most of the other main characters of the Fire Emblem games use their name, making it seem strange that this main character is just "the Avatar." Looking at articles from other wikis of the NIWA, Link is still called "Link" even in games where he can have a different name, such as in Ocarina of Time (http://zeldawiki.org/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Ocarina_of_Time#The_Boy_Without_a_Fairy) or Skyward Sword (http://zeldawiki.org/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Skyward_Sword#The_Wing_Ceremony). The same is true for the main character of the Gen. I Pokemon games, known as Red rather than something like "the Avatar" (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Red_(game) ). Any thoughts? —The Sackinator (talk) 18:16, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

There is already a character named Robin, so it wouldn't be Robin, but "Robin (Awakening)". I don't really have strong feelings either way, though. PikaSamus (talk) 18:57, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
I'm personally in favor of using default names, myself. Calling them 'the avatar' was ok when there was one avatar, but now that we've got three, and official materials happily use their default names everywhere, I'm in favor of calling by their default names. It'll be a bit of a pain though, I wonder how many instances we have of 'avatar' on the wiki haha. L95 (talk) 19:07, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I've noticed it elsewhere too, ha ha. Anyway, we could do a gradual change, starting with the main pages and then editing pages when we come across others. —The Sackinator (talk) 20:04, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Just bumping this. How about the change? The Sackinator (talk) 16:02, 3 October 2016 (UTC)
I asked in the Discord, and well, aside from getting like one response, I'm not seeing any opposition. Maybe we should start with Kris, since I think they'll have the least extensive amount of mentions around the wiki? (of course, anyone can do any of the Avatars, just kinda thinking to myself.) L95 (talk) 17:17, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
Oh, yeah, looks like We'll need Moydow or someone else with the appropriate permissions, to move Avatar (Mystery of the Emblem) to Kris since Kris is already a redirect. Same thing with Corrin. Can't move a page to an already existing page. I went ahead and moved Avatar (Awakening) to Robin (Awakening), though. L95 (talk) 17:21, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
Tactician (The Blazing Blade) can't be moved to Mark, either, since Mark was the fan name for a different character. PikaSamus (talk) 20:13, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, moving over redirects is only an issue if a redirect has multiple edits to its history or if an article tries to be moved over a redirect linking to a third name. Pretty much every article tagged for moving with Template:Move has an issue like this (all involving unnecessary disambiguation pages, the one for Ward in particular being one that should never have had this problem were it not for someone with a warped sense of priority--prioritizing an [now outdated] FE6 fan translation over what was then a Tellius-specific official English usage, and became problematic due to Awakening going back to the name)...--Shiningpikablu252 (talk) 20:46, 4 October 2016 (UTC)
