Before Battle

(The units enter the map)

Runan: ....Eugen, something is flying toward us from the west.

Eugen: Hm... That looks like a pegasus. Pegasi are sacred beasts known only to inhabit the forests of Salia.

Marlon: Yes, that is indeed a Pegasus Knight. But I have never heard of any knights of Wellt with the skill to ride pegasi...

Enteh: Is that... Mahter!?

Runan: You know her, Enteh?

Enteh: Yes...

Mahter: Sister Enteh! Thank goodness you're safe...

Eugen: Forgive my rudeness, but who are you?

Mahter: Oh, excuse me. I'm Mahter, a knight of Salia, though recently I've been protecting Lady Enteh at the Temple of Mars. Master Ezenbah asked me to escort Lady Enteh back to the Temple.

Eugen: We were intending to bring Lady Enteh back to the temple ourselves, actually. I must say, I never would've guessed that a pegasus knight would come for her! Are you going to fly her back to the temple?

Mahter: Yes, Ibis will be fine carrying just the two of us.

Eugen: Hmm...

Mahter: What is it?

Eugen: ...Are you sure about that, milady? Your pegasus seems exhausted, and that's just from carrying you.

Mahter: Huh...?

Enteh: ...You needn't worry for me, Mahter. These people are trustworthy. I'd like to travel with Sir Runan's army a little while longer.

Mahter: But Lady Enteh...

Eugen: As I said, we are on our way to see Master Ezenbah ourselves. Lady Mahter, why not travel with us? We could always use another guard for clerics like Lady Enteh.

Mahter: ...Very well. If you insist.

Eugen: Excellent! Now then, our current objective is to find our way out of this blasted forest. Your pegasus will no doub prove invaluable. We appreciate your cooperation.

Runan: Eugen, we can't get her mixed up in this...

Eugen: Milord, we must make good use of all the troops and ressources we can. You agree, don't you, Lady Mahter?

Mahter: Of course... I'll do whatever I can to help.

Runan: My apologies, Lady Mahter. Eugen can be a bit pushy sometimes...

Mahter: Don't worry about it. My mission is to see Sister Enteh safely back to the temple. As long as she stays safe with you, I am more than happy to assist. Is that all right with you, Lady Enteh?

Enteh: Of course. Please help Lord Runan...

Mahter: About that, Lady Enteh... Is this the Lord Runan you talked about?

Enteh: ......

(Inside Fort Gram)

Mel: Roger, think about what you're doing! I'm sure we can settle this peacefully. There's no need to fight!

Roger: Count Marlon has joined forces with a foreign army and is leading a rebellion against the royal family. I must follow my lord's orders and bring him to justice...

Mel: Codha is the one scheming in rebellion! You know that as well as I do!

Roger: ...

Mel: Roger!

During battle

(Before Turn 2)

(If Sasha is deployed on the map):

Sasha: General Eugen, there is a village north of Gram which we ought to visit.

Eugen: North of Gram... You mean the home of that hunter Raquel?

Sasha: Yes, I heard about her from Sir Ruka, one of Count Marlon's soldiers. Raquel is his elder sister, and she is a renowned archer in these parts.

Eugen: Count Marlon told me of her skill as well, but there's no use trying to recruit her. He's sent many a[sic] messenger to ask for her aid, but she's refused[sic] every one.

Sasha: How come?

Eugen: She despises warfare. She says that she cannot stand the idea of killing another human being.

Sasha: I see... Even so, I'd still like to talk to her...

(If Julia is deployed on the map):

Vega: You cannot run forever, girl. I've found you at last.

(On turn 5) (Inside Fort Gram)

Roger: ...We're losing too many men. It looks like I'll need to go out after all.

Mel: ...

Roger: Mel, I must go and lead the remaining troops. I promise I'll return, so you should stay...

Mel: Fine, I won't try to stop you. But, if you're going, then so am I. I'll watch your back!

Houses and villages

  • Old Man: Hoho... So you lot are Liberation Army sent by Verje? Good to have you, then. This land has belonged to Codha's family for generations, but we've never had a lord this horrible before. If only King Loffaru were still here, this never would have happened. It's such a tragedy that such good knights are being made to serve a man like Codha. Take Sir Roger, for instance. After his father died, he had to become the head of his family when he was just a lad, but he worked hard and became a knight! But now, he has no choice but to follow Codha's mad orders. It must be so hard for him and Mel... Oh, who's Mel? She's Sir Roger's fiancee. She used to be a cleric of the Temple of Mars living under a vow of celibacy, but she and Roger fell in love nonetheless. Well, let's not sugar-coat it. She eloped with him. Oh, dearie me! I must've been boring you to tears! Here, take this Physic staff as my apology. People also call it a far-healing staff because, well, it can heal from far away. But some crazy folks think "Physic" stands for "Paces a-Hundred, Yet Still I Cure!" ...or some nonsense like that.
    (Distant Healing Staff obtained)
  • Raquel's house: (When visited by anyone but Sasha):

Raquel: So... You're from the Liberation Army, right? I'm Raquel, a local hunter. How good of an archer am I? Well, some people say I'm the best in the village, but I'd have to disagree. You came from Verje, right? Then do you know my brother? His name is Ruka. He left the village some time ago saying that he was going to avenge our parents. I can't be like him. I don't mind hunting animals, but I just can't stomach warfare. I am a good cook, though. Here, try some.

(Subsequant visit):

Raquel: I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do to help you...

(When visited by Sasha):

Sasha: Good day. You're Raquel, right?

Raquel: Yes, that's me. Who are you? You look like a princess or something, with a knight at your side...

Eugen: Indeed. This is Lady Sasha, the princess of Wellt. I am Eugen, tactician of the Liberation Army. We came to visit you today to...

Raquel: I've told you people a thousand times, I'm not joining your army. I refuse to kill other people. I'm sorry, but I must ask you to leave.

Sasha: I understand how you feel. I don't like fighting, either. But someone has to fight to protect the law and justice.

Raquel: ...

Sasha: I've heard that you are a fine warrior called the Daughter of Brigid. I've also heard stories about your prowess against Codha's soldiers from your brother.

Eugen: Oh? I haven't heard that one.

Sasha: About half a year ago, twenty rogue soldiers attacked this village. They were hopelessly drunk, and tried to take advantage of the village's women. The men who stood up to them were being slaughtered, and Luca was about to be killed... Then, Raquel dashed out from the woods and defeated the soldiers in the blink of an eye.

Eugen: I see. Very impressive!

Sasha: She didn't kill them, though. She merely shot their legs to incapacitate them. Luca said that she was just like the goddess Bridget in the legends.

Raquel: ...Princess Sasha.

Sasha: Yes?

Sasha: What use is a soldier who cannot kill?

Raquel: My father always said that the duty of a soldier is to defend the law and fight for one's countrymen. Just as you fought off Codha's troops before, I think that your method of fighting could still contribute much to our army.

Raquel: Well, color me surprised. I thought that you were just a naive little girl, but I guess I was wrong. I can see why Ruka...

Sasha: Ruka?

Raquel: Oh nothing. Very well, Lady Sasha. If my methods are all right with you, then I can help.

Sasha: Realyy!? Thank you, Raquel. Also, one last thing... Could you teach me to cook? I've heard from Ruka that your cooking is the best around.

Raquel: Ruka said that, huh? Well, I'll see what I can do.

Conversation: Mahter and Sasha

Mahter: Don't get separated from us, Lady Sasha. I wouldn't want a stray arrow to hit you.

Sasha: I wish I could ride a pegasus like you, Martel. It must be wonderful. You want to be a pegasus knight, too?

Sasha: Of course! I've always dreamed of soaring through the skies on a pegasus like my mother used to. I'm a little envious.

Mahter: My mother told me that Queen Liza was one of the finest Pegasus Knights in all Salia when she was younger. I heard that she fought on par with the Six Heroes during the Leda Liberation War, and it was there that she met King Loffaru and the others. With all that riding skill in your blood, I'm sure you could be a pegasus knight if you wanted. The next time I visit my mother in Salia, I'll ask if she has a spare pegasus flute. Then we can soar through the skies together! Oh, and let's bring Verna and Frau along too! We'll all race to see who can fly the fastest!

Sasha: That sounds fun! I'll look forward to it.

Against Vega (except Julia)

Vega: ...Die.

Against Vega (with Julia)

Vega: A swordswoman with bright red hair... Are you Julia?

Julia: W-What?! Who are you? What do you want?

Vega: I am Vega, a sword for hire.

Julia: Vega... The Reaper of Shramm?! But why...

Vega: You will atone for your sins with blood. Prepare your spirit for the underworld.

(Scripted fight)

Julia: Ahh... Gah... I suppose they don't... call you the Reaper... for nothing...

Vega: Your sword... your movements... There is no weight in your attacks. Surely you are the woman I seek, but... Answer me, woman! Are you truly a sinner?

Julia: A sinner...?

Vega: You murdered the wife of the Duke Dolm of Zemsellia in cold blood, did you not?

Julia: No... it wasn't me... Lentzenheimer was the one...

Vega: I see... Indeed, I do not think you have the capacity for petty murder. Here, treat your wounds with this fruit. Until we return to Lentzenheimer and hear an explanation, I shall spare your life, woman.
(Healing Fruit obtain.)

Defeating Vega

Vega: Hah... How humiliating...

Against Roger (except Raffin or any female unit)

Roger: I am the Roger[sic] the Paladin! You will never take this fort!

Against Roger (with any female unit)

Roger: I'd rather not raise my sword against a lady, but if you seek a fight with me, then I will not hold back!

Against Roger (with Raffin)

Roger: Is that you, Sir Raffin? It's been a long time.

Raffin: Yes, the last time we met was at the tournament at the capital. It all seems so long ago now. It's pathetic to see a knight of your caliber wagging his tail at Codha.

Roger: How sare you...!

Raffin: You're better than this, Roger. You're the Paladin, one of Wellt's finest! The shadow of the Zoa Empire is spreading, trying to bring back the Dark Ages. If we do not fight against his evil, then we disgrace all that Carluon the Great stood for! We can't be wasting our lives in a ridiculous feud like this! It doesn't matter who wins here. I f the Empire is not stopped, we will surely all perish.

Roger: Sir Raffin, I... I wish could fight with you. Truly, I do. But, I have aided the chancellor... Committed his foul deeds for him... What I've done can't be forgiven. This is the path I've chosen.

Raffin: I'm sorry you feel that way. Come then, Roger the Paladin! I will give you a knight's death!

Defeating Roger

Roger: Mel... Forgive my... foolishness...

Against Mel

Mel: ...!

Defeating Mel (if Roger is still alive)

Mel: Roger... I was happy... to be able to stay by your side...

Defeating Mel (if Roger is already killed)

Mel: Roger... I'm coming to you... Wait for me...

After seizing the fort

Roger: The fort's been captured!? Damn... All units, retreat!

Ending

Eugen: So this is Chancellor Codha's castle... I would have expected a stronger defense.

Marlon: Hm... Codha must have moved the majority of his forces to Fort Wellt.

Runan: Fort Wellt? Why? The palace is already plenty defended.

Marlon: The troops defending the castle are knights serving the royal family. Codha technically has power over them, but they are not his personal soldiers.

Eugen: If Codha's greedy motives became public, he could not trust the palace's knights to still fight for him.

Marlon: Exactly. The only soldiers Codha can trust are his own. His most important lieutenants are Roger, Dommes, and Berom.

Runan: How are the other nobles reacting?

Marlon: Codha has branded us rebels and has asked them to join him in suppressing us, but for now they are paying him no heed.

Runan: That is fortunate for us.

Marlon: Yes. Codha still has the upper hand in terms of manpower, but his lack of judgment is leaving him without allies. However, our troops are currently too exhausted to battle an army that far outnumbers them. We should take a few days to recover and reorganize. Lord Runan, I suggest that we visit the Temple of Mars. I wish to explain the situation to Master Ezenbah and ask for his aid.

Runan: Ask the Master to side with us? Isn't that a bit presumtuous?

Eugen: No, I agree with Count Marlon. We do not have a capable magician in our army. Master Eisenbach's power would be a great asset.

Runan: What do you think, Enteh?

Enteh: A mage's power is to be used against the Dark God and his fell creatures. The Master would never involve himself in the squabblings of the secular world.

Eugen: Ha ha... Are you always this optimistic, Sister Enteh? Well, let us be off. We can at least try and reason with the Master.

(At the Temple of Mars)

Sylphis: You called me, Father?

Ezenbah: It's Guenchaos. It seems he did not sense Enteh... Rather, he has sensed me... He is coming to the Temple of Mars. Find Maruju and bring him here. There is something I must tell him.

Sylphis: Yes, Father.

Maruju: You called, Grandfather?

Ezenbah: I have a task for you, Maruju. You must go and warn Enteh to stay away from the Temple of Mars.

Maruju: What do you mean? Didn't you just send Mahter this morning to go bring her back?

Ezenbah: The situation has changed. Enteh is in grave danger. Please, Maruju, time is running short...

Guenchaos: I would say you've already run out of time.

Ezenbah: ...Guenchaos.

Guenchaos: Hello, Ezenbah. Where is the Shaman of Water?

Ezenbah: Why do you continue to pursue that hopeless cause, Guenchaos? The Dark God will consume your flesh and destroy your will, just as it did Kalbazan before you.

Guenchaos: Is she here or not, Ezenbah?

Ezenbah: Guenchaos... We were like brothers, you and I... I respected you... I idolized you... But that man died long ago, didn't he? The only thing I can do for him now is [sic]destroy the monster he has become...
