Warriors like you from the Cult were like gods to us in the camps.... After watching my family be killed, I'd abandoned any hope I had of escaping. But still you came, and you saved me from being burned at the stake...
— Sierra to Shigen

(Japanese: シエラ Sierra) is a Zoan Witch and playable character appearing in TearRing Saga: Yutona Heroes War Chronicles. She is a friend of Shigen.

TearRing Saga: Yutona Heroes War Chronicles

Role

Some time before the events of TearRing Saga: Yutona Heroes War Chronicles Sierra was one of the Zoans set for execution in a prisoner camp.[1] One day, Shigen, a member of the Gerxel cult at the time, arrived to liberate the Zoans imprisoned there. Sierra, saved from her execution and inspired by Shigen, decided to join the cult to be with him.[2]

When Shigen eventually left the cult, Sierra was devastated, and initially furious with him. She and Shigen parted ways after this; with Sierra refusing Shigen's offer for her to come with him.[3]

How Sierra reunites with Shigen varies. If Shigen is defeated in battle before Holmes reaches the Sealed Bridge Sierra will warp to him and refuse to allow Shigen to die, stealing him away temporarily.[4] Otherwise, she is encountered during Map 31 if Shigen visits the central village. Upon entering, Shigen will see Sierra being attacked by a member of the Gerxel cult, declaring her to be a traitor.[5] Shigen and Holmes defeat the cultist and Shigen treats Sierra's poisoning.[6] After Sierra is able to rest for a bit she joins Holmes' group. Holmes states has no issues with a Witch like Sierra joining his group if Shigen trusts them.

Sierra accompanies Runan's and Holmes' groups to the conclusion of the conflict.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Sierra's stat potential is lower than other offensive magic users and in general due to her lackluster growth rates. This is offset by two things unique to her; the ability to use Dark magic and her possession of the Warp skill. The usefulness of dark magic access is debatable, though having Sierra use Janura can help with her low durability.

By far, her Warp skill is the strongest of her utilities. Sierra has the exact same movement range as any enemy Witch, which is everywhere. While Sierra is not the only playable character with the Warp skill, her only competition, Alfred, is available for only the final battle, while Sierra is available for a fair portion of the game if she is recruited as early as possible. Her immense mobility allows for her to reach doors and chests quickly, it also allows her to pick off troublesome enemies early, such as escaping thieves. Sierra, being available earlier in the final battle than Alfred, also allows for quicker completion of the final battle by being able to unlock the doors from the outside.

Personality and character

Sierra was, after her indoctrination, a dedicated Witch of the Gerxel cult. She did, eventually, realize on her own that the Cult's true goal was not to help persecuted Zoans and left.[7] After her long time in the Cult she is not used to lively places and prefers somewhere quiet and relaxed.[8]

Trivia

  • Sierra is the only playable character in TearRing Saga: Yutona Heroes War Chronicles that can use Dark magic.
  • It appears that earlier in development Sierra had a somewhat larger role in the story, being Meriah's elder sister and a daughter of the High Priest of the Water Shrine. Unused dialogue shows that Sierra was Meriah's older sister,[9] and was forced to work under Guenchaos after being captured.[10] During one of the unused scenes, Sierra is killed by Guenchaos for refusing to harm Meriah.[11]
